I've been watching Boardwalk Empire for the first time trying to find inspiration for my sets, and I'm loving it! I knew it would be up my alley when I first heard it was coming out, but I didn't expect to be flying through it the way I am! I'm almost done with season 4 after about 2 weeks!!
That said, I've been spinning my wheels a little bit on the label design for the tourney set. The plan is to give each denomination its own label based on a real hotel/casino from Atlantic City. Each denomination crosses 2 or 3 streets/properties from the city, so there should be some good options for inspiration. Ideally, the hotels I pick would have some historical significance to the city.
I'm wondering if any of you Jersey peeps or Atlantic City fans can point me in the direction of some good reference materials about the history of the city, especially any history prior to 1935 when Parker Brothers first published the game.

A year since my last post on this thread? Unacceptable!! How about a quick update?
I’ve been trying to nail down which hotels or landmarks would be featured on each denomination of the set. I knew a few I could use, but I didn’t want to feel cornered into using something because it was my only option.
Ive always been drawn to the look and feel of linen postcards from the 30’s and 40’s, so I turned to Feebay to see what turned up. I found quite a few by searching through results to find ones that listed which street they were on. If they matched a property on the board, they went to the maybe pile.
Once that search was exhausted, I filled gaps in coverage by googling the street name and Atlantic City hotel/motel/inn. When that search turned up promising results, I popped them directly into another Feebay search for postcards, which turned up a lot more options.
Finally, for further research, I’m reading The Monopolists by Mary Pilon. I’m about 40% of the way through, but I’m a big fan so far. Lots of interesting tidbits about Monopoly’s development, as well as how pivotal the Midwest was to certain aspects of the games growth. Once I’m done with the book, I’ll buy up any additional postcards that will shape which places make the Final Cut so the labels can start to be designed.
One fun find was a key fob from the Colton Manor, located on Pennsylvania Ave, which will make a cool card guard once the set is finally done!
