When Bond ventures to the Continent, he enjoys spending time in a few French towns. Despite his exciting victory; harrowing torture at the hands of Le Chiffre; and, ultimate betrayal and suicide by his true love, Vesper; Bond frequently returns to the hotel and casino at Royale-Les-Eaux. Ultimately, he meets his future wife, Tracy, over the Baccarat table, during his adventures in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It seems therefore, that Royale-les-Eaux has a special place in Bond's cold, ruthless heart.

My first 'real' set of poker chips were the Casino Royales from the movie. I do miss those chips.

I decided to create my own Casino Royales, to complement the Blades.

Apart from a couple of chaps to bounce some ideas off, I sort of did this in secret, and by ‘sort of’, I mean, I probably did ;). Nothing personal chaps and ladies, I guess it just goes with the territory :). Besides, I like surprises.

The Chips - UPDATED (New Denoms)

25 to 1K - Low Roller

I have decided to include some lower denoms to the line-up (Bond would never play this level though :)). This will allow for a number of different Tourneys. It commences with a 314 and utilising similar 414 patterns for 100, 500 and 1000, it leads nicely into the higher denoms.

5K to 500K - High Roller

I used a few more ‘brighter’ colours (than Blades) and decided, for the first three chips, to maintain the same spot pattern, 614. The fourth chip breaks a little from this, to denote the higher denom level, and is an 8D18, and is inspired by the ACF chip.

I have run through a heap of colour combinations, having consulted my CPC colour sample, and am pretty happy with the line-up. There were some really close runners-up, but I wanted a yellow/black, charcoal/peach, white, and the ACF blue chip.

The set is a 'high-roller' set and sees the high denoms in play for a T$5M tournament and up. Thanks to @BGinGA for advice on chip-set break-down and tourney structure. He seems to have some experience playing in 5M games ;).

The Inlay

5000 v.9 (PCF).png

5000 v.9Bb (CR).png

I designed an inlay that incorporated the sense of 'royalty' associated with the name of the town, with the reverse side bearing my Casino Royale crest/logo and words of some significance to Bond. I tried both French and Latin, and given the limited room, chose Latin. I found the lions rampant, with FDL crowns no less, and felt that they suited the regal image I was aiming for. Obviously the FDL was the mold of choice :).

Without consulting your old, dusty text books, or bloody Google, how many here can tell what the words say? Further, why?

The Plaque - UPDATED (26 Jan. 2016) Prototypes

The plaque is 2M, and will be manufactured by MSK (107mm x 75mm). I wanted a blood orange plaque and wished to keep it cleaner this time. Lesson learnt.

The Dealer - Plaque

V.5 (Two-sided) (Front) (shadow).png

I initially thought a 94mm x 66mm ceramic plaque for the DB, but then went back to a 60mm round. However, I have returned to the plaque, which allows for an image of Casino Royale to be used, and is a bit different. OWPS will take care of the plaque DB.

Seating Chips

Seating Chips.png

As this will primarily be a tournament set, I designed some seating chips (39mm), with numbers of some significance. I was fortunate enough to come across the actual font that is used for '007'. For those who may question '0010' :), Fleming actually refers to one of the '00' section as 0011 :). There were only 3 members of the '00' section at any given time. The briefing sequence in the movie Thunderball is for dramatic effect only as there were never 10 '00' agents. Again, the logo/crest will adorn the rear side.

Gene at ABC Gifts & Awards has indicated he will be in a position to offer us the 39mm seating chips, with different colours for each set!!!! :). He is just getting back to me regarding the price per chip. Would love to see up to 10 sets (his minimum) to support a really swell guy :).

The Cut/Cover Card

Casino Royale Cut Card (PCD).png

Alain of @PokerChipsDesign (now you know what they were for :)), has already woven his magic with my cut cards, which are winging their way to me as we speak. These will be available for purchase directly through Alain; however, should you wish to have one, simply contact Alain, and perhaps PM me so I can keep a record as well :).

The available colours are;
  1. Gold Card / Black engraving;
  2. Silver card / Black engraving;
  3. White card / Black engraving;
  4. Green card / White engraving;
  5. Red card / White engraving; and
  6. Black card / White engraving.

Acknowledgements

I have been working on this for some time now, even before the Blades arrived. I would like to acknowledge a number of chaps who gave a bit of time to viewing colour patterns, inlay designs (there were a few), and other aspects of the process. By involving a few fellas, (instead of going it completely alone) my creative juices flowed to allow the design to evolve from a rather simple thing (at the time I thought was great, but wasn’t), into what we have today. Not perfect, but I am happy with it.

Thanks to @detroitdad for his outstanding honesty haha, which led to some inlay changes, for the better I think. Also to @stocky and @Toby for chiming in with some great inlay design pointers as well. I went for a cross-section of nationalities :). Besides, DD has a new found love of Bond novels and he just ‘gets it’ :).

Without intending it, my earlier inlay had a font that looked strangely familiar, subliminally no doubt. I had ‘stumbled’ across a font similar to @bivey's CdN (similar, not the same mind you). Must have been the ‘French’ thing :). I contacted Bert and being a great sport, he gave his blessing. But, it still didn’t sit right with me, so I went for a more ‘non-descript’, yet pleasant font and the set moved forward again to where I really needed it to go. Again, thanks to Bert for being a good stick and for checking a few of the earlier versions, and some timely advice on what a reverse inlay is for.

Samples

I would be pleased to offer samples of all depicted (as per availability of seating chips), should anything take your fancy. The FDL is next in production in April/May 2016, so it will be some time. I will leave the CPC order until late February for chip samples. I will place an order for the Sundries a little earlier, so if you want them, let me know sooner rather than later :). Oh, you may be wondering, "Where is the '007' chip?". "Surely there is a '007' chip!" Yes, you may be wondering. Keep doing that :).

I love the Latin text on the reverse side. Just spectacular. Thanks for involving me in the process. I didn't bring much to the table. I think I helped keep you on track.

Job well done. It was great corresponding with you on this (and the other topics that we ended up chatting about).

I'm in for 1. 2. 3.

I'm a sucker for bond stuff, especially Casino Royale. I was just rewatching the movie yesterday!

Here are some screenshots, for nostalgia's sake. We're coming up on 10 years of that movie's release.

My guess inside. I didn't look it up - I just like languages.

"TU TANTUM VIVERE BIS"

Tu = you
Vivere = something about life, living
Bis = twice

Therefore it's probably YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE.

BTW I'm in for a (1) and a (2) ... 4-chip sample set + plaque! These look awesome.

Well done mate :-), nice work. Appreciate the kind words and have added you to the list.

Any idea on the top phrase?

I'm guessing the top is

"The world is not enough"

Orbis or Orbit is a globe or in our case Earth, hence world.

Non is no or not

Sufficit seems like latin for sufficient or in Bond's case, enough.

Yes. Good one Bert :)

"The world is not enough" - Bond's family motto.

"You only live twice" - Part of a Haiku penned by Bond, but has one too many syllables I am told :).

"You only live twice; once when you are born; and once when you look death in the face" - YOLT, Ian Fleming.

Apt expressions for Bond I think.

Not that this thread is necessarily about the movie chips, but selling the set that I had of them (I think 200 chips, and a commemorative box) was probably my biggest regret since I've been buying/selling chip sets in the last decade.

I forgot to say, put me down for a 4 chip sample plz, Adam. Don't want to almost miss out again! (and if the 007 chip happens, I'll need one of them too :P)

Easy fix. Beg to buy a set of these, which IMO are far better.

I'm in for a 4-chip sample set. If there's a way to share shipping costs with @Mr. Cheese , I'd be up for that. Just ship to him, and he can bring it down at the MTTD?

These won't be made until May, so probably won't get to him in time to bring them along. We'll see how the timeline looks when we get closer and sort shipping then mate :-). Added to the list :-).

Damn... Late to the party. I've been known to know a little Latin. [emoji6]

(Doesn't anybody ever do inlays in ENGLISH anymore? [emoji38][emoji12][emoji1])

IN please for a sample, any and all CPC chips! (not the other stuff.)
