My Tuesday night is a weekly micro stakes spread limit with mixed games. It has been running for decades, I got my seat about ten years ago. It will be difficult to get a replacement player on short notice.

A batch of minor ailments / issue have added up by the evening. I have a staff infection, I pulled a ligament in my left hand, I have a mild cold, my mom is ill so is my wife. No one thing is serious but combined they are a drag on the system. I can tell that I will not be playing my "A" game, maybe not even a "B".

I decide to play anyway. Well, at least we were playing for quarters. I was in boneheaded donkey mode the whole night. I knew better . . .

The worst mistake I can recall (and the fact I can't recall clearly isn't a good sign) is repeatedly chasing after high hands in hi/low split games when the low comes in and I only have a high draw. Really good high draws, but I am drawing only to half the pot. That is almost always a mistake unless the pot has dead money and/or we are playing multi way.

That isn't the only problem - drawing to weakfish lows and then paying off nut lows. Cold calling preflop with modest holdings. Trying to bluff calling station.

Best I could figure/remember - - - I should have been a $20-$40 winner and ended up a $20 loser totally based on bad play. On top of the losses, the game wasn't much fun. I knew I was playing poorly, didn't feel good and ended up on the negative side of the ledger.

Will I learn my lesson? Nope, not based on history.

Sometimes it's good to be a donator... Keeps the other players happy to see you! :)

The downside, of course, is that you lost and it was all your fault.

The upside is that, if you usually take a profit from this game, you may have given some donators renewed hope that they're not just paying to watch you play cards.

We've all been there. Playing when less than optimal. Just take note and move on.

I take a lot of care before I play these days. Make sure I'm rested relaxed positive mindset, I've eaten, and worked out. It has done wonders.
