I have watched the first two episodes of Amazon's The Man in the High Castle (the Phillip K Dick alternate history) and Netflix' Jessica Jones (darkish Marvel superhero). While I liked both, I found High Castle to be more interesting. Not surprising, I suppose, given the source material.

Is anybody else watching?

Glad you started this thread Leonard. Not interested in Jessica Jones but I'm working my way through the Man in the High Castle and I'm loving it.

I'll watch basically any PKD adaptation but this looks really good after two episodes.

I have never read (or even heard of PKD's Man in the White Castle), but I will likely order the book and read it after I finish the series. Very impressive but also very grim. I'm not sure that I've ever grown up entirely - I tend to prefer my entertainment to not be entirely depressing.

You should check out Jessica Jones. Watch the first one at least. Best Marvel so far IMO (after 2 episodes). I watched Avengers 2 and wondered how they can spend $100 Million on a movie and not hire a writer. JJ (and Daredevil before it) at least avoid the Avengers problem: We saved the Universe last time. How are we going to top that?

I hadn't read TMTHC in years and chose not to refresh myself as to the specific details before starting the show. I watched the pilot several months ago during its initial release and was really hoping it would get picked up. If there's any justice Amazon will finally have a "hit" streaming property on their hands.

I'll give an episode of JJ a shot. I do love Kristen Ritter.

I am four episodes into the Man in the high Castle. It is an interesting concept and so far has not been a disappointment.

I have The Man in the High Castle on my queue list and I can't wait... It sounds very promising...

I was very, very pumped for Jessica Jones... I absolutely loved Daredevil and was hoping JJ would surprise me in the same way... Not so much until now... I'm only 2 episodes in though... It is not bad but for some reason I think the 'voice' of the show doesn't match the plot... I like it well enough to finish the season and I hope it improves... I actually felt it improved: first half Ep1 < second half Ep1 < Ep2...

I finished JJ this morning. It absolutely gets better and darker as the season moves along. As a whole I enjoyed DD better. However there were parts of JJ that were darker/better than DD.

Will probably start JJ in the morning after work. I finished DD on Friday and though it was excellent. I will have to check out Man in the High Castle also.

Thanks to @Leonard I gave Jessica Jones a shot and I've really liked it.

I'm nearly through the season and I keep forgetting and then remembering that it's a Marvel property. It has little explicit connection to any of the other characters/events. There was one episode in which its existence in the Marvel universe figured heavily into a plot, but even still it was without explicit reference to or appearance by any other character. I think that's a strength because it allows it to adopt a tone which I think is markedly different from the tone otherwise present in most of the Marvel universe and which I find tiring at this point.

A few episodes from the end of the season I have to say I wish we'd seen more Luke Cage. Just reading the wiki entry for the show, it appears he'll have a whole series on Netflix at some point, so hopefully it's as good as JJ.

I haven't made nearly as much progress on the Man in the High Castle for whatever reason. I think that I've watched JJ when I've been tired and ready for bed and wanted something fairly unchallenging. Not that the Man in the High Castle is some high intellectual achievement, but I guess I see it as deserving of more thought and JJ as more popcorn entertainment. Will have to get caught up over the holiday weekend.

Same here. I stayed up until 2am to get through episode 11 last night. Probably would have finished it, but my plan to watch 2 episodes during the online PCF tournament didn't work out ;)

I like JJ a lot. DD> JJ. I thought killgrave was very well done. @jbutler , it gets even darker. The Villain makes the show.

I believe Netfilx is also going to have a Punisher dedicated series. If they follow a similar, dark path as JJ then it could finally be done right. From what I've read the Punisher will make an appearance in S2 of DD

There is a direct connect with JJ and DD in the last two episodes of the season btw.

Yeah I agree that Killgrave is at least part of what makes the show. FWIW, I couldn't get through much of Daredevil. It's been too long for me to give a detailed explanation as to why, but I think I might have made it through 3 episodes whereas with JJ, I was hooked immediately.

I've had a few of my friends say that they also prefer JJ over DD. I was a Marvel fan as a youngster. I'm sure nostalgia played a part in it. You stopped watching DD before Kingpin was introduced (I believe he was introduced in 4 or 5). Same with JJ. The villain was the best part of the series.

High Castle is on my list. Just started watching JJ and was already a fan of krysten ritter, loved don't trust the B in apt 23 (James Vanderbeek was the best on that show though)

Only about halfway through the first season, I'll discuss further in spoiler tags just in case

Just finished the episode where they attempted to kidnap Kilgrave and were intercepted by his security detail that was not mind-controlled. Kinda disappointed that Jessica didn't just one-punch knockout those guards. Feel like she's experienced enough with her strength to deliver knockout blows vs killing ones and just held back too much. Aside from that, I am enjoying the show, especially Kilgrave, but was already a fan of David Tenant from Dr Who anyway, and recently caught him in the Fright Night remake where he was also brilliant.

Her drug-addicted neighbor has done a pretty solid job portraying his character as well. And I like that JJ has a realness to her, in the way she dresses and talks, you feel like you could just sit down at the bar and pound whiskey with her and it'd be perfectly normal

Was going full speed with Jessica Jones then discovered that I had a free preview of all the premium channels over the weekend and decided to catch up on Ash vs Evil Dead and realized too late to get caught up on GoT. Will be finishing up JJ this week and probably start MitHC.

So far I have enjoyed JJ. DD was better IMO, but I am not done with JJ yet.

Almost done JJ, absolutely loving David Tennant. Cannot stand the red-headed neighbor girl, I guess we're not supposed to like her but some of her lines are just so ridiculously written.

Also, according to this page: http://marvel.com/characters/2722/jessica_jones

JJ is supposed to be resistant to physical injury, and obviously superhuman in strength. But I've seen her struggle fighting extremely ordinary people and go down from hits from the same, which kinda breaks some of the consistency we should have with her character.

I'm not much of a binge-watcher and I've had family over all weekend. Will watch another couple of episodes of JJ tonight most likely. I agree that the villain is well done. Looking forward to tit.
