I’m asking this both as a buyer and as a seller to know where my standards should be:

When an item is marked “shipped” (I.e. shipping included), and the ad doesn’t otherwise say what kind of shipping (or by whom, or by when), what is your expected level of service for shipping?

Depends on the day of the week and holidays, you can always reach out and discuss it

If not specifically indicated or expressed, I would assume the easiest or cheapest…
I typically use padded envelopes from Amazon for small shipments, larger go into usps bubbler or a frb based on size of shipment.
Some ppl have requested a specific shipment method and if more expensive I ask for difference to accommodate.
Many other variables to account for but that’s the gist of it on my end.
Forgot to add that there is a shipping thread somewhere that I read before shipping on the how to’s of shipping if needed.

The cheapest but safest way possible. If it's a rack of chips that will fit in a SFRB for $11 via USPS versus $17 via UPS using my own box that may not be as secure, I go with option #1 each time. If a buyer wants insurance, I'm happy to do it but the cost is on them.

^^ this. My standard is USPS FRB or padded envelope of the appropriate size.

Insurance optional, at buyers choice and expense. As a seller, If they are desirable and $$ chips, I’ve offered to split full coverage insurance for both our benefits.

always registered, saves time and nerves....but with heavy load its better to make arrangements between parties beforehand

anyway my default shipping is registered, after making mistake of shipping internationaly with regular parcel I have learned my lesson

also I understand that for US residents that is different story
