I can’t understand why a casino or card room would use chips that could be ordered by anyone, and the labels easily copied. It just opens them up to easily counterfeited $25 and $100 chips.
I've seen some other rooms do this too. Sometimes it's so they can open quicker while waiting on their order of more secure casino chips to arrive. Sometimes it's a temporary way to see if the poker room will even make money and get off the ground before they invest in better chips. But usually it's just because the owner is also the manager and has no idea about chip security or is too cheap and figures that no one would try to sneak in fakes -- or if they tried, he and his staff could catch them in the act.
