i don't really understand the 3d14. haha. i think paris 5's only have 2 different spot colors.

The 3 means there are 3 sets of spots. The D I believe means there are 2 spots in each edge spot--the 2 colors you mention. The 14 tells you how thick each spot in the edge spot is. I think this is right so the experts would have to weigh in, but that's how I think about them.

To be fully pedantic:
D for double spot
14 for 1/4 inch
Three double quarter-inch spots

Red variant is preferred, but absolutely open to other colors as well.
