For anyone wanting to know how rare these Outpost $100s are, when I bought out all of the remaining chips that the owner, John, had left after selling the casino, I got something like 35,000 total chips. Out of that entire lot, he only had ONE rack of these $100s. And he was so stingy about it he tried to hide them from me. I told him if he didn't include the rack of hundos that I was walking away and we wouldn't have a deal. He decided to include them and accepted my offer. Then, about a week later, I got a phone call from him saying I stole his $100 chips and that he wanted them back (he had severe dementia - he told me the same Mickey Mantle story 3 times in the span of 90 minutes). I told him the terms of our agreement and that I had it in writing. He started cussing me out and threatening me. Told me he was going to send his hitman to my house if I didn't return them (not joking). Then he started calling me every day and at work, threatening me. It got really bad. I almost had to get the police involved. Crazy motherfucker.

Is that a "dibs"?

That’s terrible you had to deal with that. John’s behavior is sad, though not unusual if his dementia (which is a term that does not describe a specific disease) was actually Alzheimers. I’ve seen a couple people who had always been calm and quiet their whole lives, rather suddenly turn into cussing angry people during one of the earlier stages of Alzheimers. Anyway…

So, if only one rack of hundos was in the 35k chips (~0.3%), and there are four barrels for auction here, apparently there’s another barrel hiding out there somewhere.

Think there’s more than one rack. Just saw a few sets with them and even a few sample sets floating around in some old threads.

Ya, it was pretty sad. Alzheimer's is awful. He was in his 90s. I just felt bad for the guy. That's why I was so patient with the situation. I ended up getting a hold of his family and talking to them about it instead of calling the cops. But his behavior still spoke volumes about the type of person he was prior to falling ill. He literally threatened to kill me and my family over a rack of poker chips. And you could tell this wasn't the first time he's done something like that. And he definitely has guys that beat people up for him. I met one of them at his house.

Anyhow. I believe these chips above are from a second rack. Not sure exactly how many are out in the wild though. I think I know of 2 or 3 racks in total?

Since we are in a classified for these chips I think we are starting to be a bit rude.

In any case, these are very rare and awesome chips!
I didn't see Travis' 2nd post before responding to yours.

I don't think it's rude at all, and shouldn't impact the sale. They're fantastic, glorious chips and one of my personal favs from all the various mass finds and TCRs (these, Tonks, LCOs, and Trees are my favs). But if chippers see someone post mentioning rarity, and they have additional insight, I think it would be bad form if we *didn't* post a response.

I'm personally contemplating a barrel just to plan for the future in case I can ever get my hands on an outpost set again.

No harm with the banter...I love info. Yeah John passed away in December and his ex wife Sylvia from Diamond Syl's fame is still a dynamo living down south by San Diego. When John and Sylvia were married and ran the Outpost Pacheco, they had a friend of John's that sold real estate and also worked at the club. At the time of the divorce Sylvia said she wanted the club so that's what she got and she renamed it Diamond Syl's. Their buddy thought he would try his luck at running a club and bought the Pacheco Inn. Of course it turned into the California Grand and Wil Wilkerson became quite successful. @betmorewinmore and I ran into Wil last summer and he was sad to hear of John's passing.

I've never seen these $100s in quantity but definitely seen more than one rack. I'm guessing 2-3 exist.

I've got a barrel of the San Ramon 100s as well in my Outpost Pacheco set. So they are out there but not in great numbers (definitely more than 100). As rare as the San Ramon's are, they are no where near as rare as the Outpost Pacheco 100s are. I've been hunting for them for quite some time and I have yet to find any, not even a single chip. The only place I have ever seen on is on the Chip Guide site.

Now that you mention it I don’t think I have ever seen any Pacheco $100s other than the one I picked up years ago for my sample set. I think @cpiaaq collects them so maybe he can add some info.

I have 1 in my sample set.

When I was buying racks from John no $100s passed through my hands, Pacheco or San Ramon.

I eventually got John to sell me a Pacheco sample set he put together before the rack sales started. These had the $100 and the 10c. There were probably 50–100 sample sets. I tried and tried and failed to get a rack of dimes. I didn’t try for any $100s, and I can’t remember ever seeing the $100s in barrel/rack form since.

John, like many, liked to complain. :) Paulson’s 1000 chip minimum was a sore spot with him, which confirms that at least for San Ramon there are at least 1000 of each denom.

When I was at his house, his daughter was there as well (Michelle? I think) and she had a small tub filled with Pacheco sample sets that she wanted to hold back from the lot of chips I was buying. They were complete sample sets with the yellow dimes and $100s. The were probably about 50 of them or so. I got two sample sets from her in the deal and she kept the rest because she wanted to sell them one by one. I tried to negotiate the dimes but she wouldn't break them out. She also said that there was only one rack total of the dimes ever made and that all the ones that they had left went into sample sets. They were never used on the casino floor and there are no complete racks of them in existence. I fidget how many of the $100s there were but she only had a similar amount of those. She also said her mom had a rack of the Pacheco $100s though and that was the only full rack she knew of.

Could this be it?

I sold these a long time ago. Maybe I shouldn’t have - lol.
