I'm looking into getting a set of chips. I was leaning toward majestics, but then saw the royals. The royals are 43mm if I'm not mistaken. Not sure I've ever played with 43mm, and curious what everyone's preferences were.

I can’t say absolutely that I prefer 43mm chips, but the 43mm chips I’ve handled have been great.
I easily prefer the Royals to the Majestics, as they are less slick and have a softer feel.

Standard casino chips are 39mm I have had the new royals in my hand and they feel great! May spoil you for future upgrades going back to standard size though! I think you're going to like your samples!! Fellow chipper Ben

I seem to be in the minority in that I 100% prefer the feel of 39mm chips. I somewhat understand the appeal of 43mm to be used as large denom chips, but I definitely prefer the 39mm ones on average. Would definitely advise that you get a sample of 43’s before making any decisions if you haven’t already.

And I would definitely make the whole set the same. I have 1000 peice cheaper dice style chips that I play with now, that I'm planning on keeping for a tournament set. I'm assuming they are 39mm but never measured.
Never thought i was OCD but just the thought of my cash set being 43mm and my tournament set being 39mm gives me a "weird" feeling ha ha.

I have a 43mm tourney set, and I love the way they feel. That said, if you’re going to be taking your chips to a friends house, it’s much more difficult to find 43mm racks that fit into a birdcage (your best bet would be to get Matsui racks, which are a hot commodity).

I have chips -- from casinos -- ranging from 36mm to 39mm to 43mm to 47mm to 48mm to 50mm. All are fine, but I personally wouldn't want to play with an entire set that wasn't either 39mm or 43mm. 36mm is just too small, and 47mm+ is too big to really be comfortable in bulk.
But 43mm casino chips are great -- the only downside is that they are pretty expensive, which is not an issue with the Royal china clays.

I like it when casinos jump up to 43mm for higher denoms.
From what I've felt (Majestics vs 43mm), I always think the 43mm will be too large. Then I get used to them and it's great! Then I go back to Majestics (which I love) and I'm like, "Did I grow or something?" ... They are so small! But then I get used to them again. I think it's all a matter of what you play with. Either 39mm or 43mm will feel great. But don't mix them.
The biggest issue, which was a surprise to me, was the lack of any kind of storage for 43mm. The Matsui racks will fit in a birdcage, but good luck finding any. I'm going with standard 43mm racks from Apache along with an "Apache" (not related!) branded foam carrier case.

They would be for my cash game and I don't plan on transporting them around at all. I've never done that, plus I have a cheap case of chips I can use for that if I need to.
Regardless of what I end up with I was going to custom build drawer inserts to store them in my poker room. So I can make the inserts to fit my needs. I would need racks however.
Remember to buy 43mm racks if you buy 43mm chips.

Solid! Thank you. Looks like a few different sizes. Wonder if the 3800 would work well for 600 chip set, 2 decks of cards, and dealer button. Thoughts?
It will definitely fit the chips. But not sure about the cards/button. That's 3 racks, stacked on top of each other.
I recommended the Majestics to a buddy for a home game, but now you guys have me thinking about pointing him to the Royals. Guess I'll send him those to and will recommend a sample set of both before he makes the decision.

I received my Royals sample set earlier this week. I like almost everything about them. Except the size. I can't get over how big they are. Could never buy a set of them. He definitely needs samples of both sizes.
