Not Mine 550 WTHC on Ebay (1 Viewer)

Wow! I wonder what I could get for my 1200 chip WTHC set? :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Pretty crazy. Unless the $ was super outrageous, I can’t ever see selling my set. It’s definitely my favorite and it has some sentimental value as well. My mother got me started on these with a 500 chip set for Christmas one year.

Totally understand man, especially with the sentimental value. The WTHC chips are a great set with shaped inlays, vibrant colors and nice spots. I've got just shy of 3k of them and like you have always thought I'd never sell, but at these prices they may leave home someday.o_O

In finance and economics, the greater fool theory states that the price of an object is determined not by its intrinsic value, but rather by irrational beliefs and expectations of market participants. A price can be justified by a rational buyer under the belief that another party is willing to pay an even higher price.

Compared to the 500 ct set for $20K CAD, this is a 550 ct set for $8750 CAD... they're obviously pricing this to sell fast.

Am I the only one not surprised with the price? I mean look at the latest auctions for AS chips in Classifieds. They go for up to $7+ a chip. Is $10 a chip that a big difference to even make fun of?

And. in my eyes, WTHC are prettier chips.

Edit: correction, it was ES chips, not AS.

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder but there other factors as well I believe, such as rarity and type (mold) of chips.

Perhaps one may find a Ford Pinto prettier than a Ferrari but the other factors dictate price/value/demand. (And I’m not comparing either chip to either of the cars.)

Definitely! And probably comparing the chips didn’t help my point, which was that any Paulson chip at this point is rare and highly desirable, and the prices at eBay are indicator of the future prices in this site.

That’s my opinion of course and how I see things. I can be completely wrong.

Star chips are more desirable around here for 3 reasons IMO.

1)Condition-brand new, mint, unplayed Paulson chips. Enough said
2)Mold-THC vs Suits. Most here agree that the THC mold is the superior.
3)Provenance-The Ocean’s 11 of chipping. Also designed by chippers

Let’s also not forget the availability/cool factor of these chips. In order to have a chance at owning these you have a join a small group of poker chip enthusiasts in an online forum and then have the right connections. And yet, most of the star chips have stayed within the group. Very few sets have been seen on eBay or the like. To the average chip buyer, the star lines are much harder to find than WTHC, Classics, or Pharaohs which can all be found on eBay regularly.

I think it’s all relative. I do like the WTHC to some extent but at $6/chip, I’d much rather have a set of secondary PCAs. Again, someone may prefer the WTHC, but on the whole, most people would choose the PCA. It’s that discrepancy in price that is shocking.

A good car analogy would be the car prices in Cuba. Sure one could say, hey look at this idiot, he is trying to sell a 30yo Ford for 40k while here in our little community we can buy a 20yo VW for 30k.

Ok, I’ll stop spamming now :D

My WTHC set will probably never be for sale unless the price was just sooooo rediculous I couldn’t refuse. This is the chip that got me into chipping. As far as fantasy Paulson chips go, WTHC and Le Cove are probably the crim de la crim of this category.
I see many more “boat” chips for sale on PCF than I ever see WTHC or Le Cove chips.
The Boat chips are great without a doubt but IMO, I’d much rather have my WTHCs.

If you've got a spare barrel of the 5000s you could start by selling them to me... :D

If I come across any I’ll let you know. I’d actually like to add about 3 barrels of $1s to give me a second rack. I don’t have any high denominations that I can let go. I sold the last 5000s I could part with to @pokerpig, maybe check with him. I’ll send you a message if I find any.
