The currency unit when these were made was the Maltese lira, thus the Lm1 on the chips. Often the £ sign was used to represent this currency, such as on the LGK Dragonara chips. (I nearly pulled the trigger on all of @Fleming 's Dragonaras a couple weeks ago, so I'd done a bit of research).
