too good to be true.

Saw those when they were listed last night, had the "snap buy" mentality but managed to restrain myself long enough to check the pics.

I wrote the seller and warned him those didn't look like any TRK chip I had ever seen. "I have never seen any TR King chip that resembles the ones in your auction. The lack of a mold and the general appearance seem inconsistent with chips from that maker. Lots of folks reuse chip boxes. It isn't safe to assume the chips are TR King made chips just because the chips are in the TK King box. Can you help me out here? I'd love to get a rack of authentic vintage chips if these are some uncommon mold."

The seller wrote back "No I'm sorry I am no poker chip expert but according to the website they made over 3000 different chips."

The seller has a perfect rating. Write him a note complaining about the inaccurate listing and ask for a refund or compensation. I am sure he will not take a negative feedback for false advertising over $25 bucks.

While you were posting I did that.
Thanks---will report back.

I have to say, while I thought I found something cool, that is the most fun about collecting.

I have done the same thing. For example I bought these fakes (fakes are on the left):

Saw a deal almost too good to be true - snapped them up and got the bad news when the box came.

yeeesh---I seem to find myself in these predicaments sometimes....

here's my note to the seller

Hello Sir,

I would ask a favor for an honest mistake. I was driving home from work, and noted your item while driving. Yes--bad move, but I got excited and saw the chip and snap bought them, as I love the TRKing chips.
But when I got home and had a chance to look at the pictures, they aren't the small crowns that TRKings produced. And the box said purple but these are black.

Would you please cancel the order?
Sorry for any inconvenience.

SA

and then he replied

New message from: trashntreasureman (318)
Yeah OK Steve but I have to tell you if I buy something buy accident I pay for it and this has happened 3 times in the last two weeks it happened yesterday a guy said he bought something by mistake. I am retired military and live on SS military pension and eBay. People used to be good for their word but now they expect me to be accountable for their mistakes. Just the way the worlds going I guess I'm just old school my integritys worth a hell of a lot more than 16.00! I am leaving now but will cancel it later.

Tom

but then he replied again

OK Steve here's what I have decided to do. I am going to put a stop to me taking accountability for other people mistakes. After 23 years I am still very much "the old sailor" accountability is a big thing for me so since the chips were all wrapped and ready to go out I will not cancel the order but I will give you a refund. Just send them back and I will credit your account for the price minus postage. This will help you remember in the future and you may even like them so much you want to keep them and be thanking me. From now on any requests I have for cancelled orders will be handled in this manner. I'm sure it was an "honest mistake" but contrary to what the box said I take excellent pictures and they were clearly not purple. Has a nice evening

That is what negative feedback is for.

I personally put the seller on notice that the item listed was likely not a box of TR King chips. We all saw his reply.

Ok - so he likes personal responsibility? Fine. Contrary to what the box said, the contents were clearly not TR King chips. What happens when a seller fails to deliver what was advertised? Well they refund or get negative feedback.

I'm a little tempted to spend $9 bucks, write him a note that I am relying on his description of the auction's contents since he clearly "looked them up in a chip guide" and now want his hide on feedback.

Pfff, ignorant sellers -=- DrStrange

Report him to eBay for fraudulent listing and demand your money back. He's claiming innocence, but he's not changed how he's conducting shady business. His own admittance of problems with past sales says volumes.

I have mixed feelings about this particularly since we are talking about $16, I'm not defending the seller, but I will also say that most of the time if something seems too good to be true it is too good to be true. Also, there were pictures and he did certainly hedge about whether or not they were TRKs in his response to someone's inquiry. eBay is a morass of both honest and dishonest folks and its caveat emptor unless there was blatant fraud. Here it seems that it was equivocal whether or not these were TRKs as he did post pictures.

That is where I stand on the first sale. However, once the seller was informed that these were not TRKs he has absolutely no business continuing to see other lots as being TRKs.

I sold a Macbook on eBay that did not work and I could not figure out how to fix it. I advertised it as "For parts only". Someone bought it and then two months later opened up a Paypal complaint saying that he had tried several computer repair places and could not get it fixed. He asked for a partial refund on $20. I told him to pound sand because the listing clearly said for parts only and I was very clear that the computer did not work. He ended up dropping the claim after my response.

So he admits that they clearly didn't match the box, yet decided to post them as 'TR King' branded chips anyway. How hypocritical that he's talking about integrity, yet didn't take 'TR King' out of the title even though he edited the description. The best part is that he sold another 'TR King' lot the day before where the buyer asked him to cancel the order (likely for the same reason).

It's the seller's responsibility to list an item accurately and the fact that he actually edited the description but not the title after having another buyer renege the day before (and receiving message(s) questioning authenticity) shows some intent to deceive.

Id open a 'not as described' case with eBay after receiving them. The worst that will happen is you send them back at your expense (which is where you're already at) but there's certainly a chance that eBay may force him to cover all costs (or give you a refund) due to the title of this listing being inaccurate.

eBay has copies of all the emails between buyer and seller...you will be fine opening a case and the seller will have to reimburse you for return shipping as well, it wasnt a case of you buying them and not liking them, he misrepresented the chips saying they are TRK's...they are not...doesnt matter if it was $16 or $5 or $160...plus being a dishonest douchebag doesnt set well either... :ROFLMAO:

i have had eBay take my listing down (not for poker chips) when you reference any in the title that even says "copy or looks like a certain brand that it isnt like TRK or Paulson chips or Fritoes....lol, so this guy stating they are TRKs and trying to cover his ass in the description saying well you make your own decision"....that doesnt cut it

I'd pay to see the look on the seller's face when he realizes that being a hard ass who purposely misrepresents items will cost him shipping in both directions...and he'll still be stuck with nothing but a TRK box and some worthless plastic chips.

He has not yet mailed the chips - but is going to as some bizarre way of teaching you a lesson? And after you brought up a legitimate issue.

That is particularly offensive.

I wouldn't think eBay's resolution team will be very impressed with that either

Yep, eBay almost always decides against the seller unless there's something glaringly nefarious on the buyers end (which there isn't). In this case I don't see any way that this isn't an open/shut case in the buyer's favor, and all shipping costs should be covered by the seller (or at the very least return shipping).

I don't know if you can escalate a case directly to eBay or if there's a waiting period for the seller to respond, but regardless it should make for some quality entertainment. Maybe it will help him 'remember' for the next time....

From the thread title, i was thinking you got into an accident. Although, I'm glad that wasn't the case, i sure hope you were not driving and checking eBay on your phone at the same time. Sorry to be a "Debby Downer" on a Chip Related thread, but we have enough idiots on the road these days.

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw the thread.

thanks for all the comments and concerns

i feel a tad guilty, as i couldn't see the pictures clearly driving down the freeway ( kidding..really.) but on the my phone it was difficult to see the molding.
and i was excited that maybe i was the first one to see this ad--which i now know will NEVER happen--doesnt anyone work here?

so....i'd rather have him credit my account and end it there. but he ignored my last e mail and my package has a tracking number.

will update as it happens.

Well, they're not entirely worthless... Those look like Langworthy, which are at least better than ABS dice chips.

Still not TRKs though.

I do agree that if he had not sent them out yet he defintely should have cancelled the sale. I mean what the hell? He had to wrap them up to ship them to the next person who wanted them anyhow.

okay...here's the next part of the conversation

Ok Tom, you do what you have to do.
Your ad is deceptive. Your ad states "vintage t r king poker chips". When they arrive I will examine them and if they are not authentic TRKing then I will open a ticket with eBay and perhaps this will help you remember in the future to be accountable.
Have a nice evening, sir.

and he replies....

Well Steve this ain't my first rodeo eBay will see all the emails and your first one clearly stated you bought the "wrong kind of Crown chips" now you will change your story to try and hold me accountable for your mistakes go ahead give it a shot I've got more time eating chow while crossing the date line than you got on this earth son. Learn to take your lumps like a man don't try to lie your way out of cause no matter where you go there you are.

i almost want to meet him now.

Guy's an a*hole. Don't waste any more of your precious time. Open the complaint when they come and stop communicating with him. He clearly has way too much time on his hands and you'll only get more and more frustrated.

Have you seen the other garbage the guy is selling. It's like let's clean out the garage and attic and throw it all on eBay and see if we make some chump change. Clearly a loser.
