Here we have a test of the market. 395 Paulson chips for $750 or $1.90 per chip. None of the chip come from sets that are highly desired. No high denomination chips or fractionals. Basically not a bargain . . .but they are Paulson chips from closed casinos. It could be this is the new normal. We shall see.

Go get 'em? -=- DrStrange

They are worth what people will pay, and I think it's well beyond $1. Who's setting the line?

I thought these might've been part of the ones that was 2000 chips for $900 so went looking for that thread. Wow that shit escalated quickly.

But yeah, the only chips of value here IMO are the $1s. The rest in that condition I wouldn't pay over $1/chip

This seller is a little shady. I actually just bought these from him last week for $550, and I sent them right back. He didn't show the close up photos in his previous auction. They're in pretty bad shape. I'm the reason he took close up photos lol. He shipped them loose with the racks inside of ziploc bags too.

When I told him I was returning them because of their condition, he was really pissed off.

These chips aren't worth anywhere near what he's asking. They likely won't sell at this price. Most recent auctions for these chips are for less than $1 each.

Very possibly the same guy. Same state...... same attitude.

I agree. The reds and greens are beat to hell. maybe 50 cents a piece. It won't sell and won't give us a reference point IMO.

I don't believe these are related, the 2000/$900 chipper's name is Tim and he said he wasn't expecting the lot of chips til the end of the week, I also believe he planned to sonic clean them before selling. Just FYI. I know the witch hunt is a brewin' haha

Ya, different people.

Also, this seller isn't a member, or at least I don't think as his packing job would indicate

Yeah I knew they were different chips. (Different $5s) but for a second thought it was the same set and eBay seller had split them into smaller lots and upped the price or something.

I will be suprised if these sell at this price. The ones are in good condition, but that still dont justify anywhere close to that price. And also I dont think it is always true that the value of chips are what people will pay. If some random guy that have no clue about pricing will overpay for a lot like this, that is not necessarily indicative of the actual market value.

Same breakdown, and now they're listed for $200 more? Lol

I'm going to go ahead and tag @chkmte

It doesn't seem likely that these are the same chips that he just bought, since the turn around is so quick.

Again we reach the crossroads as to why it's ok for some to profit and be lauded for their actions(see recent auctions of Wynn, SDPM, GCR spotted tourney chips) and others to be ridiculed for testing the price point they wish they could get because they see new money that has just come into the hobby in the last year pushing prices sky high and they think a chip is a chip. In my opinion it's all our own fault.

I am not going to buy those chips either, but can't blame someone for asking what they want for them.

Ever heard the phrase 'Caveat Emptor'???

Community members get more slack than random eBay sellers. The high prices on their own might not be worth "ridicule", but they seem correlate with poor shipping practices, deceptive descriptions, threats (!) and general undesirable behavior. I think we can separate the two groups pretty well...

As far as @DrStrange posting this link in the first place, I think a monitoring of the price of casino Paulsons is valuable. I have 3 racks of the P-A-D $25s that I picked up for under $100 total. If replacement cost is going to be $600, I really have to treat them differently. I'm really reluctant risk travelling with a Paulson set at this point, which is one thing pushing me toward the Boardwalk hybrids.

Seriously?

Wait...seriously???

He was perfectly cordial with me and didn't say anything negative about pcf even after I encouraged him to give it some time and ignore the behavior of certain members and overzealous mods. He simply requested a refund in my current raffle, which seems inconsistent with flipper or collector mentality but understandable from someone withdrawing from an abusive situation.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought you were saying that he randomly reached out to say he was leaving and added nothing else - a behavior that I've seen elsewhere and always strikes me as odd when it occurs.

Agreed. And we see the same attitude reflected in some sellers here on PCF, running supposed auctions to "test the waters", with the provision that they "reserve the right to end the auction at any time."

I'm not targeting any particular seller here, since that language somehow crept into the "PCF standard" auction rules, but IMO that combination is bound to lead eventually to something underhanded. That's why I have and never will bid in any of those "open" "auctions", no matter how much I covet the chips.

I'm tired of seeing ridiculous prices for poker chips. Everything is overpriced

I'm tired of a lot of things that are ok here but not on other sites. I'm not talking about th site, Tommy has done an awesome thing for all of us. And I don't treat members of a free membership site that I've never met any different or give them slack for actions I don't like from a random eBay seller I've never met. Shit is shit no matter where you step in it.

This is a function of sites like eBay where ridiculously overpriced chips don't sell, but remain listed, while chips that are reasonably priced sell quickly, so at any one time, many/most of the listed auctions are leftover, overpriced, ones.

Not really IMO - it's a function of people with a lot of expendable cash entering the chip hobby in the last couple of years. I've been in it for about 12 years now and have never seen so many of us paying stupid high prices for these things. Then those who have bought over the years couldn't resist selling to make 400 to 1000% profit by selling to the new crowd and the newer people being willing to pay it. Now the cash flushed seller goes and overpays for a set they really want. And the inflation machine keeps on chugging.

Casino Paulson vs. ASM/CPC custom price is an interesting benchmark to me. They seem to have kept pace, unless I'm off. Couldn't you get custom TRKs for $70/rack at one point? Heck, the vineyards/olivia's chips always had high prices and haven't changed much. The biggest difference to me seems to be the elimination of the bottom end of the market due to the lack of chiproom sales. Any old timers care to correct me?
