Warning - is isn’t really pron in our normal sense - this set isn’t going to impress anybody, but it’s what I’ve been up to for the past couple of weeks, and this is as good as a place to post it as any.
I recently saw some Great Canadian Casino $1 chips for sale here, for a great price. When I see leaded, textured inlay Paulsons for under two bucks apiece, I look for any excuse to buy them. My poker buddy is Canadian - perfect excuse. 42 chips seems like a stupid amount, but it’s almost perfect for a heads up set. And since I’m always bringing my heads up set to this guy’s house, for OFC or heads up games, I thought, why not just give him a set? He’s a guy who appreciates good chips, but would never pay for them himself.
What else to put in the set? I’m already being over-generous here, and I’m actually pretty cheap myself, so let’s keep it as cheap as possible. I’m not looking to impress anybody, just have a functional set of nice clays, ready to play whenever. So, for fracs, it turns out I have a couple barrels of quarters from the Commerce, that I’ve tried to sell here a few times, but could never get what they were worth. Perfect! And I also had four Shy Clown $25 chips that I’ve also been unable to sell for what I think they’re worth. Great, I’ll happily give those to a buddy before I sell them for cheap.
So now all I needed was a barrel of $5s. Problem is, the commerce quarters are red, so I had to find non-red $5s. And since my target price was free, I needed to compromise, and look for non-Paulsons. After combing Spinettis site for hours, and every other chip site I know of, I was losing hope. But then after a few days, it occurred to me that Spinettis sells stuff on eBay that isn’t on their site, and often that stuff comes in small lots. And there I found this barrel of Panamanian fivers for $20 shipped. They’re not THCs, but they’re a similar mold with a protective ring, and the inlays are textured, and I was pleasantly surprised to find them weighing in at over 9g apiece. Nice.
Oh and I scored this nice little magnetic wooden case on eBay for $3 (plus $11 shipping.)
So here it is - when you can’t think of an excuse to build yourself another set, build one for a friend! $252 bank perfect for heads up, and could probably support a cash quarters game for 4, with bills playing for rebuys.
