I'm going to keep qualifying my initial posts with the fact that I'm new to this chip world at least until I learn a bit more...

With consumer Paulson chips (i.e. WTH&C) being hard to come by and averaging $2.60 - $4.00 per chip these days, and seeing PCF members having fun building their mixed sets (see my previous post), this question comes to mind...

If I were to walk into my local RI casino who is using TH&C molds and simply go to the cage and purchase a full rack of $2 chips for $200 to take home, I would actually be paying less than purchasing a full rack of WTH&C from the classifieds, Craig's List, eBay, etc... Even more so if I were to purchase a full rack of $1 chips for $100.

Do PCF members do this from time to time? Or do we differentiate vintage (retired) casino chips from active casino chips?

Is this frowned upon in the chip world, or perfectly acceptable (I honestly have no idea)?

I'd consider doing this if I liked the chip, they were of decent quality (I've heard that you could ask the cage if they have any newer chips), and would fit into the mixed sets I was building. But certainly wouldn't want to do this if you all advice against it (just please explain to me why).

Please let me know your thoughts.

I believe "technically" they cannot sell you chips, but just buy a rack, walk away and dump it into your backpack. Harvesting is usually best at a limit poker table, buy in for 2 racks, sit there and sort them, cashout bad rack, keep good one, maybe rake a few pots.

Fracs, not so easy, you have to sneak them off the table.

Anything over $2, I'd rather buy closed casino chips.

Good luck in your search.
