Hello all,

I am planning to order chips for a 5c/5c home game. Usually I play with only 5 people but could be 6 (cash game). Also I simply like the chips, we do not play often.

Now i love the Rounders CSQ chips from CPC but they dont come in 5c denomination.

So my plan was to order the 125 pieces of the 25 cent blue chip, but get it custom made with a 5c denomination. (see attachment for standard 25c chip)
Then because I also need a 25c chip I order 100 pieces of the 50 cent yellow chip, but then custom made with a 25 cent denomination.
(This way the spots on the side increase with the value of the chip, the 5 cent has 2 spots, the 25 cent would have 3 spots).
Then i order 50x the standard 1 dollar chip, and 25x the standard 5 dollar chip. (see attachment)

Would this be a nice set? Is there anything I am missing when i setup in this way?
The only thing is that if I ever want the regular 25c blue chip, it would not match my set. But I guess it does not matter?

Thanks,
Boringtim

If ordering through CPC you shouod be able to create your own custom 5c chip/spot pattern, just contact CPC with your desired edgespots.

Depending on stock though, you may just have to wait longer for the 5c chips vs the others.. but David at CPC would be best to guide and advise.

Thank you but I guess I feel more comfortable with a design that is already there, also the desire to make something different is not very high.

Am I making a mistake?

Yea that probably would be fine.

So some facts:

300 chip set
5-6 players
max buy of $5 to $10
proposed breakdown:
5c - 125
25c - 100
$1 - 50
$5 - 25

PART 1 - chip breakdown:

lets say you have 5 players with $5 buy in. you could do starting stacks of:

5c - 20 (5 left in bank, likely will be unused).
25c - 16 (20 left in bank)
starting stacks would be 36 chips.

Generally speaking, yes I think the starting stacks are good. I say that because I think starting stacks are most fun when you have around 35-45 chips to start with.

I said this recently in another post, another personal opinion, when the SB and BB are equal, you may consider upping the initial max buy to at least 120BB, because conceptually the game will play a bit bigger. IF you did that, you could give two barrels, 20 5c and 20 25c, very simple.

Math nerds may be able to optimize your breakdown, but it does work for what you're looking to do and would have plenty of bank left over. Perhaps the math nerds would tell you lower your $5 chip amount and make more 25c chips, which are likely to be your work horse chip.

PART 2 - changing the chip denoms from the stock CPC design:

I don't have much to say other than simply use the colors you like best. I'm a NJ born traditionalist, so I don't deviate from the white, red, green, black breakdown. However, with that said, I really like the blue colored chip finding its way back into home games as a fraction.

For a 5max (sometimes 6max) 5c/5c game you can get away with

100x 5c
100x 25c
80x $1 (or 60x if you want extra fives)
20x $5 (or 40x as per above)

Per player 5max starting stacks @200bb

15x 5c
17x 25c
5x $1

And the occasional 6th player would start with

25x 5c
15x 25c
5x $1

300 would be an odd number of chip trays (3) for any widely available birdcage or holder.

Consider a 400 chip set. It will balance whatever container you store your chips in when not in use or in transport.

It will also allow you to stretch up to around 8 players when people start bringing friends/sig others to your game which has become wildly popular.

You are on the right track with CPC. Welcome aboard, and as always:

"Good luck, player..."
