Waiting List
I have been living in Paris for 8 years now, and pretty much quit playing poker after the AOF closed. Last year, the bug hit me again, and I have been occasionally at the tables in Paris's remaining card room, Cercle Clichy Montmarte.
Then the worst thing happened, I got invited to a micro stakes game held by some young and broke ex-pats I know. They were playing in the back room of a bar using two different molds of 1/2 slugged 1/2 unslugged, unlabeled plastic chips and playing with worn out paper cards.
After playing with them a few times, I couldn't take it. So, I bought some KEMS and 400 Cinci's here and added rack of Oasis 50¢ fracs. The molds and chips don't match, but it's only a 5¢/10¢ game (we play 1/10 the face value of the chips). It doesn't really make sense to use a wildly expensive set. Everyone is extremely happy with the upgrade.
Still.. The FRACS DON'T MATCH.
I was investigating buying some Argosy or RHC solids and getting gear labels made. All the chips must have the same mold. That would work.
But, Cinci's are RHC and have faux inlays! I hate faux inlays.
I just made an offer on the Huntington Park set with matching fracs. That should work great. They would arrive in a week. Only have to play with stupid unmatching chips for one more game. Life would be good.
But how cool would a custom French themed 5¢, 25¢, 1€ or 1franc, 5 franc, 20 franc set be?! On the Scroll or Fleur de Lis mold. Maybe, hot stamp the nickel!. Who knows, perhaps some of the Frenchies on the board would want to get involved in a group buy...
My name is Mike, and I have a chip problem.
It began when I lived stateside and ran a weekly 50 person T20000 and a large 1/2 cash game. The cash chips were 1200 beautiful Treasure Casinos bought and sold for around 70¢ a piece on CT. The tournament chips were 3300 Engdahl hot stamp roulette I bought for 20¢ a chip. Unfortunately, they are sitting in a closet 6,000 miles away in Colorado. Maybe someone in Colorado wants to score a deal on them. There is also a beautiful table with a dealer cutout and a drop box for rake...
This is a strange and wonderful hobby. I am glad, and a little nervous, to be back.
Mike
PS if anyone lives in Paris and wants to play sloppy micro-stakes, let me know.
