So I decided to do some more mock-ups. I received some samples from @CdnBeerLover (thanks Dave!) and if I'm choosing between ceramics and hybrids, I'm definitely leaning towards the Polyclay chips by Sunfly. I also, like many of the folks here, love the simplicity of the Stardust Poker Mansion chips. I took a lot of inspiration from their cash set. I also love the Caesar's Palace hot stamped chips that we used to see on the Heads-Up Championship as well as the South Point chips (minus those ugly inlays), so I decided to take the 414 spot route.

I made the edge spots look a little more natural on the faces of the chips and not quite so square, but I would love to hear your guys' opinions!

Enjoy!

I like the look, but you need more contrast between the T100 and the T500. They are way too close, even with the different edge spots. I mocked up something similar with @p5woody a few years back (no edge spots), and will eventually get them made.

Nicely done, but for Polyclay the optimized center area is 1 inch. And which mold is your preference, cards or diamonds?

Quick observations, spot colors are heavy on the yellow/orange-ish spectrum and the maybe try changing the spots on the 500 to a shade of blue to differentiate it a touch more from the neighboring T25. Also, there’s no blue spots :p

Did you abandon the initial idea of those monochrome spots, James?

I like what you have in the OP a lot but I LOVE the other mock up!

Oh no! Those are definitely still on the table!

Good to know brother! :sneaky:

I would personally lean towards that one a lot more, but I'm sure there will be opposite views as well.

The only issue with the monochrome spots is that the colors need to be picked VERY CAREFULLY as you don't have the luxury of different spot colors to differentiate the chips. So Dark Green would look like Dark Blue, etc... I think the SPM tourney set does an exceptional job at it. There is not mixing up chips IMO.

Do you have a color wheel for the ceramics? Not sure how you'd go about getting one but with it, you could check colors and contrasts.

My initial thought was a pure black T100 with light blue spots, to be honest.

I know that you can get a set of CMYK color wheel chips at OWPS, but I don’t know exactly how to purchase them since Sal passed away, sadly.

I think I do like the monochrome 614 chips a little better as well since they are inspired by the BCC spotted GCRs, which are highly coveted. Maybe a group buy is in order??

Honestly, after thinking about the mold options, I would probably have to go with the card mold.
Sun-Fly will produce a custom Polyclay mold for $4000 -- a Four Suits mold would be sweet for these.

If going with a group buy for the 614-spotted version, spreading the mold cost across a large number of chips would probably be affordable. Sun-Fly may even make the mold for free if they can also retain it for their future use.

Any spot color but green on that 414-spotted hundo. Blue would be tons better.

With some sort of group but this may be possible!! I would love to see something like the TFP mold make a comeback!

I wonder if the entire logo could be made into a mold? I feel like that would be very suitable for plenty of different chip sets.

Where did you get the information for custom mold price?

That's what I meant -- a Four Suits logo mold, not a mold with four different suits.

Inquiries made during previous group buys.

So I'm back to the '614' chips, and @BGinGA has informed me that Sunfly can make a custom mold for a price. However, I may see if they would be interested in keeping this as a stock mold since it would be a good "across-the-board" mold in my opinion.

My goal when I purchased the artwork rights to the Four Suits design was to offer it up to anyone who wanted to use it, so it would be really awesome to see some kind of group buy take place with these chips. Obviously, we would need someone with more design experience to fine tune everything and we would have to decide on the label, but I'd love to hear more from you guys about this! I'd like to know the following:
  • Firstly, would you even be interested in a Four Suits chip?
  • What would you like to see done differently?
  • What are your thoughts on a Four Suits mold?
  • What colors would you like to see?
Here is the mock-up for the T25 chip. I will add more later as I finish them.

Thanks everyone!

  • Yes, interested.
  • 44mm chips
  • Like the 4 suits mold idea, but feel that the design might be too busy for the small amount of room around the mold area of the Sun Fly Poly Clays. Currently have some Lucid Diamonds in hand for reference.
  • I like what you’re going with so far. I also like green/charcoal/darker purple/bright orange/bright blue.

I'd like to do a few different color mock-ups for the T100s as was done with the BCC spotted GCRs, IE: charcoal, dark blue, and light blue. The same goes for the T500s and possibly others.

I'm also a little worried that the Four Suits logo might be too much for such a small space, but maybe it could work? Someone with far more experience than I would have to chime in.

That’s a great starting point, I love those chips. Did you also check out the gopherbluesman GCRs? @gopherblue tweaked the colors and might have even made them better than the originals.
