Hello poker chip fanatics! I'm one too!!

Found Hobbyphilic (John's) YouTube site and since I got the poker bug again, I'd like to start hosting poker nights at my house again. I have set of chips for cash games but I'd like to get another set just for 9-18 person SNGs with a re-buy. John's channel is a wealth of info! I really like the Pharaoh's and Dunes chips sold by Apache and the Desert Sands chips. I like Desert Sands chips over the Nevada Jacks skulls because they have nostalgic look to them. The Scroll chips look interesting too. I just want a nice set that's not gonna cost more than $250 that the players at my game will appreciate. Most of the home games I play at have dice chips with no denominations.

Welcome! All the options you mentioned are pretty affordable and will serve exactly the purpose you are looking for. If you have any questions feel free to reach out! Happy to see more and more people looking to host games!! Spread the joy! :ROFLMAO:

Welcome!

Cash or tourney? What stakes do you play? How many players? How many rebuys?

Take a serious look at the 43mm Royal China clays from Apache. They’re just a step above other china clays in terms of colors and, more importantly, stacking.

Hello and welcome! Lots of great resources including chip calculators so you can buy the right amount of chips for your structure.

One popular tournament structure is T10000 starting stacks made up of 12/12/5/6 (t25s, t100s, t500s, t1000s)

Some do 8/8/4/7 with fewer chips. Both work well, but most of us agree moar chips are better.

You can find lots of great blind structures as well.

Good luck and welcome.

One final piece of advice - Buy Samples!!

And the smell. Let's not leave out the weird smell of the inferior China Clays. The Royals still have a smell, but you gotta put chip to nostril to get a whiff of it. So, they are superior in that regard.

I'm just being real. I've got samples of Majestics, Dunes, Royals, and sets of Milanos and Desert Palms and they ALL have a stench.

Welcome to the forum! Always here to help. Provide feedback and insights!

Tourney...like a 9 player SNG with one re-buy. The buy-in will be for $20 or $40, not big money. I have a decent set of Nexgen chips that I really like and use for cash games. I made my own labels for them. They aren't amazing but a HUUUUGE upgrade from my no denomination dice chips LOL. I want a nice 500 chip set for my tourneys. I'll take a look at the Royal China clays...thanks.

Welcome! Just wait until you get samples of other chips. It'll open your mind and likely your wallet lol

The chips from Apache are very good bargains and a huge step up. Just be careful about catching the chipping bug.

I was thinking of doing a T10,000 format with 15/13/2 with starting stacks of t100s, t500s, and t1000s with t5,000s waiting in the wings.

Starting with blinds at 100/200, that’s only 50 big blinds. That’s pretty shallow. I like to have at least 100bb, and prefer 200bb, unless your goal is really quick game.

Secondly, since the T100’s will be removed first, I’d do 10/4/7/6 for starting stacks of 40K. You could start at 100/200.

For 10 players, you would need 400 chips:
T100 x 100
T500 x 50
T1000 x 100 (plenty for color ups and rebuys)
T5000 x 100
T25K x 50

This would also allow deep stacks up to 100K (10/4/7/8/2). You could actually do this and start the blinds at 200/400 for 250bb, and just give the illusion of really deep stacks. ;)

But this is just my input. Plenty of ways do it, some better than others.

Sounds like if I wanna do a T10,000 format with a 10K starting stack at 100BB deep, then I'll need a t50 chip. Or with a 500 chip set I can to 15/13/2/2 (100/500/1000/5000) for a 20K stack and that would be 100BB deep. I should have room for 1 re-buy too.

Good advice from the posts above. I'm just here to tell you, please be nice to your wallet as things progress. One second you're telling yourself you're going to "only" buy X amount of chips, next thing you know you've already taken a step down the slippery slope of chip collecting...game over then my friend. Welcome to PCF. Great great forum with an awesome bunch of people to say the very least.

That would work, too. You could also start your blinds at 100/100.
