Hi Guys

I'm planning a NL Holdem Tournament with just Antes (no Blinds).

Does anyone has a good structure for a 4 hours Tournament with 6-7 Players?

What would be the best chip breakdown?

Thanks in advanced for your ideas and suggestions.

I played in one of these about three years ago. I don't remember the structure (I have emailed the guy to see if he still has it). I liked it. It played bigger and faster than what most anticipated.

Below is the structure we've used since 2012.

NLHE Ante Tournament
20-minute ante rounds (L1-L3), 15-minutes thereafter
T10000 starting stacks (12xT25, 12xT100, 5xT500, 6xT1000)
35% average ante increase, estimated 4.0 hours play (12 players)

All players post the ante prior to the hand, action starts to the left of the dealer with a minimum bring-in bet (UTG player must bring-in or fold, but can optionally bring in for a higher amount up to the size of their stack).

Rarely is the minimum bring-in the correct strategic bet size. At L1 with 8 players, there is already T400 in the pot from antes.... so betting just T25 is pretty small in relation to the pot size. Most opening bets are 1/3 to 3/4 pot size (T125 to T300 in the L1 example).

It's a great format for weeding out the nits. Just fold whenever they raise, and they'll run out of chips by L8 with no re-buys available. :sneaky:

Reviving this one from the dead, lol.

This structure and game format sounds very intriguing. We've never played one of these.
Will try to plan a 10-player game this week, can't wait.

2 questions though:

- the minimum bet on each street is the bring in right?
Not that on the river with 3k in the pot anybody in my game would ask what's the minimum bet.........well not often anyway.

-last to say pre-flop if no raises = dealer?

- the minimum bet on each street is the bring in right?
Yes, but it makes more sense to me to use the ante amount as the minimum bet post-flop. Even pre-flop, for that matter....
Always fun to watch somebody bet 25 on the flop and take down an 800 pot. :p
-last to say pre-flop if no raises = dealer?
Correct - if no bring-in amount is wagered, dealer scoops the antes. I've seen lots of rookie mistakes made from the cut-off position.
