I have been seeing more of these types of sites pop up. I am not sure what the deal is but they appear to scrape product photos and info from other places and then list really absurdly low prices. Often there are mirrored sites with completely different URLs and store names but exactly the same website and contact (I assume in case one gets flagged there are other out there). The poor English, lack of physical address, terrible copy, lack of good contact info, dead social links, and bizarre vastness of random goods are all massive red flags.

Could be, but they accept types of payments that have buyer protection.

I don’t know what the angle is but you 100% will not get what you order.

It could be that only 95% realize and 5% never do a chargeback. That would be pretty profitable with almost no effort. Or maybe just stealing credit card info. Possibly selling it.

Agreed and I am seeing these pop up more frequently. I would be curious to know for sure what the angle is.

i assume it is just targeted scams - if you were into designer purses (assuming you're not), you would be seeing a lot of those pop up too.

Sure, but where does the scams come into play? Just hoping that a small portion of people who buy these things don’t file a claim with their credit card company? Or they pop up and close shop before the credit card company can pull the money back (don’t know if that is even a thing)? It definitely appears they propagate batches of these sites and they aren’t expected to last long.

oh yeah, it's definitely some kind of smash-and-grab, but i sure don't know the details of how it would work. i imagine whatever it is, they probably need a very small % of success to turn a profit.

i used to work with this jamaican guy, alfred. he hit on EVERY WOMAN he met, period - he had literally zero standards or range of interest. even at 1/100 success rate, he was rolling in tail. i realize this is not some ground-breaking philosophy, but we called it "the alfred principle"

Agreed the lack of creditability from the address and contact info. The prices for the TVs are way too good to be true. The prices for the TVs are kind of comical. There seems to a lot of these websites with the same layout pretty much different skin.

I'm definitely not doing business if they only have an email as contact.

I call this the Boomhauer strategy

I would absolutely never buy anything from a Facebook ad. I don’t know why it’s such a haven for scammers, but eff Facebook for allowing it to go on and on.
That said, it’s not like $88 for a barrington is THAT insane. Walmart was clearancing them for that price, after Christmas just a few years ago. Maybe 2018?
