How do you guys arrange your Apache 4800 cases? I’ve been toying around with a lot of potential setups, and I’ve landed on a few favorites. The first two (in this post) were arranged for maximum storage. These are all Apache chip racks (Matsui clones), so they fit both 39mm and 43mm chips.

1600 chips … 800 on two levels. Will need to buy a 16 x 12 x 1/2 foam pad (~5 bucks on Amazon) to get the lid to fit snugly so the chip cases don’t move.

NOTE: you can actually get three levels of chips in these cases because of the foam at the bottom and on the lid, but closing it takes some effort and it just seems like a very, very tight fit.

2000 chips … 800 on bottom level, 1200 on top level. Rubber bands on side layered chip racks just for peace of mind. Heavy but doable as long as you aren’t walking too far.

1000 chips … 500 on two levels. Plus two medium Matsui racks for accessory chips or plaques. I will use two of these case setups to transport my CPC set. This setup also requires a 12 x 16 x 1/2 foam pad to get the lid to fit snugly. Really like this setup for my particular chip set breakdown, especially because there is an open space in the middle to easily grab the chip racks.

The setups that need the extra piece of foam padding could also allow for card setups to be laid on the top level, or allow for cutouts for dealer buttons. Alternatively, you could also use one of the middle foam layers on the bottom. Lots of possibilities.

I’m also considering getting some small locks for these cases. Again, just for peace of mind. I can’t imagine all four latches coming undone, but if they did, picking up 2000 (potentially broken) chips would be very sad.

Before you commit to trying to finalize foam etc, I'd suggest just carrying them as you have them now around the house for 10 minutes.
My 3800 packed plump full is already heavier than I'd like but typically isn't maxed out with chips when I actually use them for transport.
I have extra 3800s and 2800s if I need more chips and not break my back hauling them.

Wow. How much does that weigh with that many in there?

In general, chips seem to weigh about 2 pounds per rack. So a 2000-chip case would be 45-ish pounds including the case.

Like I said, I wouldn't carry this any further than from a car to a house. I'm not gonna carry a 45-pound case across town or up multiple flights of stairs.

This is 1,500 chips…rows of five, stacked three high.
As you mentioned, it was quite difficult to close, so I replaced the bottom foam with a piece of 1” rigid insulation foam, the type used under exterior siding. The top foam remains, and closes nicely.
I only wish I had split this set among two 3800 cases….it’s too damn heavy!!!
