How do you guys arrange your Apache 4800 cases? I’ve been toying around with a lot of potential setups, and I’ve landed on a few favorites. The first two (in this post) were arranged for maximum storage. These are all Apache chip racks (Matsui clones), so they fit both 39mm and 43mm chips.

1600 chips … 800 on two levels. Replace the bottom foam pad with one of the middle layer foam pads, and the chip rack level will rise above the lip of the case. Then the lid will fit snugly and the chip cases won’t move.

NOTE: you can actually get three levels of chips in these cases because of the foam at the bottom and on the lid, but closing it takes some effort and it just seems like a very, very tight fit. I would worry about cracking the chip cases it's such a tight fit.

2000 chips … 800 on bottom level, 1200 on top level. Rubber bands on side layered chip racks just for peace of mind. Heavy but doable as long as you aren’t walking too far.

1000 chips … 500 on two levels. Plus two medium Matsui racks for accessory chips or plaques. I will use two of these case setups to transport my CPC set. Really like this setup for my particular chip set breakdown, especially because there is an open space in the middle to easily grab the chip racks. Replace the bottom foam pad with one of the middle layer foam pads, and the chip rack level will rise above the lip of the case. Then the lid will fit snugly and the chip cases won’t move.

I’m also considering getting some small locks for these cases. Again, just for peace of mind. I can’t imagine all four latches coming undone, but if they did, picking up 2000 (potentially broken) chips would be very sad.

Before you commit to trying to finalize foam etc, I'd suggest just carrying them as you have them now around the house for 10 minutes.
My 3800 packed plump full is already heavier than I'd like but typically isn't maxed out with chips when I actually use them for transport.
I have extra 3800s and 2800s if I need more chips and not break my back hauling them.

Wow. How much does that weigh with that many in there?

In general, chips seem to weigh about 2 pounds per rack. So a 2000-chip case would be 45-ish pounds including the case.

Like I said, I wouldn't carry this any further than from a car to a house. I'm not gonna carry a 45-pound case across town or up multiple flights of stairs.

This is 1,500 chips…rows of five, stacked three high.
As you mentioned, it was quite difficult to close, so I replaced the bottom foam with a piece of 1” rigid insulation foam, the type used under exterior siding. The top foam remains, and closes nicely.
I only wish I had split this set among two 3800 cases….it’s too damn heavy!!!

I decided to do some weight calculations. I intend to spread my 2000-chip CPC set, plus 4 Matsui racks full of 70 plaques, 50 CPC All In chips and 50 metal bounty chips across two Apache 4800 cases. Online, it says this case weighs 9 pounds, 12 ounces. That seems overstated to me, but I will assume that's correct for my calculations.

The case with 1600 x 39mm cap-dash ceramic hybrid chips (top picture) weighs in at 47 pounds, 12 ounces

The case with 2000 x 43mm web mold ceramic hybrid chips (second picture) weighs in at 63 pounds, 8 ounces

The case with the heavy metal bounty chips (1000 chips / 2 medium matsui racks) weighs in at 43 pounds, 12 ounces

The case with the acrylic plaques (1000 chips / 2 medium matsui racks) weighs in at 36 pounds, 7 ounces

And even if you can carry it, I’d be a bit worried about that handle holding up.

Those of you who stack your chips 3 racks deep ... can you take a picture from the side to show how far above the lip your racks go? And what types of racks are you using? I've been stacking Apache racks (Matsui clones), and they go quite a bit above the lip when placed on the 1" bottom layer of foam. When I remove the foam, the racks sit much better, but then there is no foam layer of protection.

I use Apache racks as well for royal card room chips. Also, I use a 1/4” volera foam for the lid so it closes easier. My previous picture showed egg crate foam of which i changed out.

Or you can put the 1/4” foam at the bottom so the racks sit lower and use the egg crate foam for the lid.
