What do we think a fair price is for one of these? I have no insight into the pricing of the niche of casino ashtrays

I have a collection I inherited from my dad. He has all the records of his purchases. I know absolutely nothing about ash trays, but probably have over 1,000 of them now. He has some he paid over $500 for and some are only a few bucks. I assume just like chips, scarcity and age is the determining factor. I know there is an ashtray collectors value book out there.

Any ashtrays from Flamingo Casino in your collection?

I am sure I do. He has about 2 or 3 dozen displayed. I just left them up. The rest are in tubs in storage. I haven’t had much desire to go thru all his collections yet. I started a little bit a few months ago, but have just kind of quit on it for now. I really am not sure what I plan to do with them. They don’t really excite me. Now, his casino lighter collection I love.

I don't follow ashtray prices, but have seen tons of vintage casino ashtrays from vegas, reno and tahoe. I bought a dozen for probably $20 shipped a few years back. I wouldn't pay more than $2-$5 each. Typically the higher priced ashtrays are from some small club in a small town as those are more rare and harder to find than let's say one from the Riviera or Tropicana. There are always exceptions, i'd at least do an eBay search or ask the people on the Chip Board. There are a few serious ashtray collectors on that site. Good luck!

For example, here are two listed for sale on eBay now. When I searched completed sales, the highest I saw over the last 60 days was sold for $500.

But, I have no idea how to determine the value of the group listed.

I'd say both of those ash trays are pretty rare as I don't recall seeing them before. Not sure if they are worth that much, but they are nice.

But keep in mind, back in the 50's and 60's casino's used ash trays as marketing or branding tool. Many guests would take the ashtray home and use them at home. Tons of trays around from those years. Earlier trays are probably more rare. I think there is an ashy tray site somewhere. I'll need to look for it.

What does he want for that stockmans one ? I'd pay the shipping and a finders fee as long as he doesn't want a ridiculous about for it

Yes….I can’t believe anyone would pay $500/$2500 for an ashtray. But, I can’t believe people would pay $2000 for a rack of chips either, but here we are. Lol

I think the smaller and obscure the casino was, the more valuable the tray would be. I need to take a look at the trays I have displayed. I don’t even know where they are from.

Collected a few ashtrays a decade ago to accommodate the smokers at my home games....here's a couple of them.
Was paying anywhere between $20 to 60-$70.

I think they are like slot tokens and getting obsolete at the giftshop in Vegas, except for cheap Vegas-themed ashtrays for 5.99-7.99 instead of nice casino-themed ashtrays. If I am selling common vintage ashtrays, I would ask a minimum of $5 excluding shipping.
