It's been mentioned a couple of times that there was a story behind these, but I never heard it, so I finally tracked it down. Here it is:
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/threads/bcc-fun-nites.60107/
Not for the faint of heart, but give it a read - it's quite a page turner, especially once it gets rolling. Mini-spoiler - the thread's title was obviously changed to bcc-fun-nites at some point, because the first third of the story is about a Paulson fun nite group buy. It's like reading about people boarding the titanic. For the impatient ones, it starts to go to shit on page 7.

Sorry I didn't find that for you slipped my mind. pretty crazy story.

Just to be clear, there also are Paulson Fun-Nites. The one's I have were manufactured and bought from Paul-Son in the 1990's, long before that Group Buy.

Best for anyone hunting for Fun-Nites to know there are different production runs out there.

Also for the record, that's not the only group buy where he screwed the pooch. The Four Suits project was destined for greatness until he put personal interests ahead of the best interests of the group buy participants. End result was not epic..... but it sure could have been.

Anybody want to cliff note this.....I don't feel like reading through 19 pages of order breakdowns and price bitching.....

Anybody want to cliff note this
  • Dude developed a contact who could order through GPI & they put together an order of 11k Paulson Fun Nite chips
  • Dude received 11k starbursts and other assorted chips not stamped "Fun Nite"
  • Dude's contact said GPI isn't/can't make them any more
  • Chips ended up being made by BCC on the Sun mold
  • Dude never got even a partial refund from said contact who apparently went on the world's longest jobless streak and continues to have a sob story, and GPI basically robbed the contact of various monies that originated from the group buy
...or something like that.

F@€& me! CT was loaded with some real pieces of $#it!

I totally understand the buyers being completely let down. But in the end some very great chips were made and anyone that can get some I would say are lucky to have a chip set that's as OZO said pretty unique. Just my opinion. Says a guy with a set of these chips as well a selling a set lol.

Best post in that entire train wreck of a thread:

Four Suits GB organizer was fond of a particular spot combo for one of the chips which didn't compliment the other chips in the set. It is a good looking chip as a stand alone, but not as a set.

Wow! Just read through this story. Unbelieveable! I wonder if "Smitty" is still around the chip hobby?

I lived through this the first time and as such hoped it would never be dug up again.

What a freakin mess.

Holy Frak! So many memories. My first (and only raffle win) was all of Smitty's BCC Fun Nites.

Hey Puggy, I'm glad you checked in. I'm trying to get to the bottom of the mystery of the BCC fun nite 5's.
I've read here, a few times over the last year, from different people, that only two racks of the 5's were ever made. I know that can't be true, because on this thread, http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/threads/bcc-fun-nite-post-your-pr0n-here-heavy-pr0n-added.64348/page-3 you picture 2 racks, and a few posts down, Timmay shows a rack. And according to this page, http://www.clubpoker.net/forum-poker/topic/185135-venduset-de-tournois-fun-nitesold-out/, there was a rack in France a couple of years later.
Do you have any idea how many 5's were actually made?

As far as I recall, only three or four racks were made. I had two and BPT used to have one. Not sure who has them now.

All in all...GPI....lawsuits....now how that sounds so familiar :D. We nearly got our asses sued, when making GCOP's five years ago. Cease and Desist letter was already in....

Timing is everything. :) I'm sure that BCC's pending exit from the market (selling to GPI) had a lot to do with Mike Endy's decision to ignore the C&D letter from Ceasar's.

Put another way..... if BCC was still in business today, we probably wouldn't have the GCOP chips.

I'll say this...I recently acquired a set of these chips and I am very impressed. I love 'em.

Yepp. I agree.
