most already know this. @Ben sent me a sample set of FDL and the scroll mold chips to help me decide which mold I want to use for my sunset chips.

He sent me his sample sets of the Zombie Poker Tour, The Armory, and GoT themed chips.

WOW..................I liked these three designs just from viewing them online. In person they are even better. WOW............

After fondling them this morning I'm really leaning towards the FDL mold (which is what J5 suggested for this design as well).

Yes, Ben=awesome.

Also cool to know the Zombies have touched Detroit.
World domination coming soon...

Every time I see chips on the scroll mold i like it even more

There's probably a good reason (or two or twenty) that the folks that used to do it aren't doing it as much or at all anymore.

FDL mold would be the bomb if non-glossy inlays were available.

^FYP. Still can't get past the glossy inlays.... remind me of the Paulson home market chips, a cheaper version of true high-end casino clay chips. Love the designs that are coming out on this mold lately, but could never order an FDL set myself.

I get not liking the glossy inlays, but most (all?) RHC chips have glossy inlays, so to me glossy inlays on the larger inlay CPC chips make sense.

I feel similarly, and yet my feelings are somewhat paradoxical in nature - I love the Stardust Poker Mansion chips, and those have glossy, non-textured inlays.

Definitely not all RHC chips. PCA $1s immediately come to mind (making them far less offensive in an otherwise all-THC mold set), but there are many others.

I dunno if it's an FDL mold thing, or having to do with the inlay diameter. I have circle-square chips in both glossy and textured finish, but I think all of the oversize inlays are glossy.

so, I guess Hell is full of those (awesome $25) zombies (chips) :)

Texture is probably a mold thing. For example, "no mold" chips are textured or smooth depending on which mold is used.

Glad I could help Bill. Like I said, I'll be needing those chips back though. :)

I too am not a huge fan of the glossiness of the FDL inlays - you get the same thing though on the diamond-square mold (on a smaller scale so it isn't as noticeable.) For certain sets you may want them that way (and especially with the oversized inlay option on the FDL,) but in general what I really like about CPC chips is the texture in comparison to other high-end clays, and without it they just seem to me like a poor man's Paulson, which ISN'T what I'm going for.

Chips?

I do prefer a textured inlay. I just really like the FDL mold and feel it will be fitting with a sunset theme. If the inlay was bigger on the scroll then this might be a different story.

Before I found out the textured options was not an option, I wavered back and forth with textured vs glossy. I have a few difficult lighting angles and light reflection can wash out the inlay. Texture however may obscure many of the fine nuances of the complex Zombie art (many bits being under two pixels in size).

Had I built a simple "Bel Air" logo, texture would be a slam dunk. I guess it always comes back to the first rule of poker explanations... "It depends"...

The smooth inlay is what is making me partially consider the A mold and HG. If the FDL had the sharp recessed area and texture of the HG inlay it would be a slam dunk IMO.

Nice thing about samples... If you like what you see/feel with the FDL, then FDL is the way to go (unless your intended inlay works best with another mold).

You have the advantage of printing inlay sized printouts and placing them directly onto the chips with some of the most popular tournament and cash set base colors. Other than the likelihood that CPC commercial printers will be sharper than your home printer, you will have a decent chance to decide - in 3D which mold works the best for you.

Don't let others make the decision for you.

FDL for the win!
