I was looking at the CDI '98 $500 chips and thinking about how insanely gorgeous I think they are. I wanted to throw out the obligatory "What is your favorite $500 chip?" thread.

Lol of course you’re going to say PNYs. You’re nuts about em! Do you have any posts that DON’T reference PNY chips in any way? :p:)

I am nuts about them!! I just love the story behind them, and I love NY City. Chicago sports fan all day, but something about that city man. Hmmmmmmm I think I have commented on a few other posts saying PNY chips are better.... Hahah JK. I do like PCA Chips a lot, ironic thats the same casino basically. I don't think ill ever expand to another high end set, but I do like the way Native Lights look!

Can’t fault you man. PNYs are beautiful chips, PCAs too of course but PNYs are something special.

Meh, overdone purple with pink/green color scheme with tacky tourist photos on a slick oversize inlay that hides any resemblence to a nice clay spotted chip. And wildly overpriced, with NO history. Not even in my top 20.

I also wouldn't call anything that involved the WTC buildings tacky, but just my opinion.

This made me so happy

Really? Just one? I thought they were like Lay's potato chips.

I literally have dozens..... of racks.
Restraint! I’ve tried to keep my collection to chips I’ll actually play. I had a bunch of Cleveland Horseshoe primary $500’s (and that chip deserves a nomination just for its unique spot pattern) when I was using them as tournament chips. But people thought they were worth more money than I did, so I sent them away.

I would have to disagree with the "tacky tourist photo" comment. That is a great portrait of the once Great Twin Towers. To many of us the events of 9/11 are in our thoughts daily.

Love and always will both versions of the PNY $500s.

All of my chips see table time, including the 500's. :)

All of the PNY chips have tacky tourist photos, regardless of the subject matter or how (or how often) one personally feels about it.

I'd much rather see the magnificent twin towers remembered in a classier way than on a slippery bloated inlay RHC chip from a failed casino effort. YMMV.

I respect that. I think what some people, including me, is when we see that picture, we think of that picture now being a burial ground for loved ones. So when I hear someone call ANYTHING relating to the Twin Towers tacky, it stings a little bit. Regardless of it being on a poker chip, or a monitor wallpaper. But it is what it is. Its your opinion and that is ok!

I like Ben’s Via Lactea chip, the purple and red Nevada Lodge quarter-pie, and the Golden Nugget (similar to Grand Gulfport), to name a few offhand, but any kind of serious answer could take some looking and remembery.

Restraint! I’ve tried to keep my collection to chips I’ll actually play I deem reasonably priced.

Much to my disappointment, I still haven't found anything even remotely close to 'reasonably priced' when it come to $500/$1K chips. Although I do have the Le Noir chips, but that's a different topic. I hope that I never get to the point where I would justify paying $2K-$10K for a rack of chips.

P.S. I know I know...we all have different definition of 'reasonable'
