Question for the experts. I just got a set of 1000 CPCs. After the chips came, I bought a traditional clear acrylic 1000 chip carrier tower. This came with 10 "made in china" chip trays. I've noticed that, when the chips sit in the trays, the bottom of the chips actually don't touch the bottom of the tray itself, meaning the diameter of the chips is slightly greater than the tray. I compared them to the position of the chips in 2 trays I stole from Aria poker room that have a "67.7" label on them and the chips sit only slightly lower, but still not touching the bottom of the tray.

I'm wondering if this is common or if there are specific trays I should buy that perfectly fit Classic Poker Chips. My concern is that, because I'm stacking five racks on top of one another, that this may cause stress on the edges of the chips over time.

Maybe I'm overthinking it. Thought I'd ask.

I'm also open to buying a wooden chip case but haven't found a decent one that fits 1000 chips and is high quality.

Thanks!

You're definitely not overthinking it. If your CPC chips are just slightly larger than those cheap racks that came with your carrier, it is possible you could damage them when stacking.

Just get it covered rack. Even though the chips are looser inside of these, there's zero pressure on the top of them:

Agree with @BearMetal

Congrats on your CPC’s but, pics or it didn’t happen! You can’t drop that without showing us what you got :)

LOL! Dude, they're the Atlantic Club stock set. I'm completely in love with them, but after seeing what the OGs are posting here, I'm not sure they're much to brag about. Will definitely do a custom build in the next few years. When the time comes, there will be pics.

67.7 usually works
I thought so too. But when I tested one of the rows by spinning a single chip, it still sat up on the edges, just not as bad as the crap Chinese ones. I was surprised because I specifically jacked them from Aria assuming that they were top notch.

Which mold? Each mold has a slightly different width and will fit differently in the same rack.

Edit: CPC racks below.
My lcrowns on the left (small diameter) vs B mold on the right (larger diameter).

One caution: I bought some and while they’re a perfect fit for lcrown, they were really tight (you can see the scouring-yellow arrow-on the red B mold).

I just looked at what I use now.

I have my H-mold set in the Key West racks. It’s a great fit and I see why Dennis sells them for his chips. A few barrels are a bit snug, but nothing like the red B mold shown above.

My lcrown set is in the CPC racks.

I no longer have the B molds.

I think someone said molds vary a bit by thickness in addition to diameter, so that seems to explain it.

So I go back to my first question- which mold do you have?

If you took a rack from a casino, those are 66.7mm. CPC is a little thicker, and fits nicely in the 67.7mm racks. Seems trivial, but makes a big difference.

I have the Atlantic Club in A mold. It looks like @dennis63 has the best fitting racks.

Yep. Just tested an A mold sample color barrel in the KW 67.7 rack and it was snug, sitting close to perfect.

Whereas an unmarked rack was too wide, a made in China marked rack (CPC?) was also too wide, and a 66.7 rack was way too narrow.

Two quick points to add in the discussion:

1. The "chips don't touch the bottom of the tubes" can sometimes be an optical illusion caused by the thickness of the plastic itself. Easy way to tell? Put a rack of newly oiled chips in the tube, wait a few minutes and remove them. Then hold the rack up to good light. If you see 20 unbroken "lines" of oil all the way across the inside of the tube, they're touching the bottom.

2. There is no "perfect" fit between chips and racks. There is "not as good" or "better." Both the rack material and the chips can have a small amount of variance in thickness. A tiny difference in chip thickness, multiplied by 20 can make a noticeable difference. If they're tight, shuffle two barrels and re-stack them.

I have thousands of CPC chips between my Rounders and customs, all of my racks are the 67.7 from Dennis at Key West. 95% fit perfectly, there are a few barrels that are a little snug because of the slight variances that can happen in the CPC chips.

I just noticed that the matsui racks only fit 19 CPCs in each barrel. If I get a custom CPC set I guess I cant use them and have to buy the racks Dennis sells?

The 43mm Tina racks hold 39mm CPCs pretty well as they are covered and stack up really nicely. The 40mm racks don't quite fit my A-Mold set. I fit 20 into most slots, but some barrels seem to be slightly taller and don't fit.

Overall though I am really happy with Tina racks. Really high quality and have already replaced my Chipco Racks.

I think this is correct. My method of testing was to take one chip, place it in the tube where the chip is touching the bottom by facing 90 degrees from where it would normally be facing, and then slowly spin it into the proper facing direction. In my case with both 67.7 rack and "made in china" rack, the chip would hit on the edges and then rise up off the bottom.

My guess is that heavily used casino chips just get used and worn down enough that they ultimately fit the 67.7 just fine. But, in my obsession over my new set, I'm aiming for perfection. That's where it sounds like @dennis63 has me covered.

Just ordered some chips from CPC and came across this thread. If I wanted to order some racks, would it be best to message dennis63? Is the website KeyWestResortsCasino the same guy?

Yes. CPC also sells racks.
