Hey guys and happy new year!

So long story short, I host tournaments and we've been having a Best Hand Bonus for a while. Basically the player who's won with the best hand (Full house and such) within the first 5 levels, takes a fixed amount from the Prize Pool (in this case, $40). It turns out the Add-on is exactly $40 (what a coincidence eh?).

But I wanted to take this a little further and instead of awarding the player with actual cash ($40), I'd like to award them the add-on. This would be a "forced" purchase as the player cannot simply take the 40 bucks and leave if they've busted out or did not add-on. This would benefit the prize pool and the winners of course.

My question is, would this be ethical? Players could see this as a downgrade I guess.

let me know your thoughts on this ;)

So long as the policy is clearly stated in advance of the tournament buy-in, I see no problem awarding a free add-on to the high-hand winner.

Only possible issue is how to handle a player who wins it with the best hand but busts out prior to the end of the high-hand qualifying period. Make the free add-on good for the next tourney?

Yeah that's what I was wondering. I guess re-add the $40 to the prize pool?

I think the best option is to give the opportunity to use that Best Hand Bonus ($40) to Rebuy into the game by paying for the difference ($20 instead of $60).
This way a player who's won the Best Hand Bonus and who busts out, won't feel obligated to Rebuy a whole $60 to not "lose" with reward.

High hand for tournament is tricky. I mean, seriously, didn't that hand give them enough in the tournament?

Better idea for high hand in a tournament. Make a certain dollar amount lotto scratch off ticket a part of the buy in (I'd say $5). The high hand winner gets the lotto tickets. This allows you to keep the prize pool and the high hand completely separate, while also not affecting the amount of chips in play for the tournament. I use this for a "bad beat jackpot" on my nickel and dime tables, and it has been a riot.
