Best Omaha book for an idiot (2 Viewers)

During lockdown I’ve been making the move from NLHE to Limit. Now that I’ve conquered that (and by that I mean I’ve not lost any money ) I’m wanting to learn about Omaha.

What’s the best book for a newbie? I’d prefer one that offers both High and 8.

I watched a game of 8 last night and it looked like bingo so I’m guessing that there’s a lot more to it.

Mike Matusow was once the best PLO8 player in the world and by many accounts is still one of the best. Do with that information what you will.

I hadn’t quite finished it but I have liked Scoop! a lot, it’s newer too. It only focuses on PLO8 and Pot Limit Big O though.

I bet you referred to that as “the bible”. That’s what I called mine.

Super System 2 has a chapter on fixed limit Omaha8 if you’re trying to find fixed limit not pot limit.

This Shane Smith pamphlet and Sklansky's Theory of Poker were the two print resources I leaned on the most.

Limit Omaha and Limit Omaha High Low hasn’t changed much over the years since poker became popular. Now PLO is the hot game but it’s super volatile. Limit poker in general and Omaha H/L is a grind but its something that if you stick to the basics can be consistently profitable. I prefer limit over NL because of that.
Expect to get outdrawn and learn to deal with the grind of folding, waiting for good starting hands then after putting in bets the whole way to lose on the river. But ppl go on tilt and throw money into pots and although it’s slow, it’s easy and relaxing.

As far as books I’d go all the way back to super system 1 & 2 for good limit and Omaha strategy. PLO has newer books but Limit hasn’t changed much.

If you read this book, you are going to play TIGHT. But it is a good start.

I finally managed to convince my home game crew to try it (after 16 years of trying). We’ve played it online twice now and now they’re all wanting to switch to PLO from NLHE. One guy still calls it Oklahoma but we’re making progress.
Next thing is to try and get them on to PLO8...

I was gonna say this as well. I though plo and plo8 were fun, then came along 5 card hi and big o. I have actually been playing big o for many years, but 5 card hi..... oh baby.... keep ur hands inside the cart and keep ur belt fastened at all times. Awesome games.

Jeff Gwanghwamun* (that’s what my predictive text came up with when I typed Hwang WTF?!?!) is now on my kindle.

Scoop has been located for £25 with free shipping so has been ordered and will be here before the end of the month.

The only book I can find by Mike Matusow is his autobiography and I didn’t fancy that.
