I'm thinking about doing a quick trip to Vegas sometime in the next 4-6 months, probably for about 4-5 nights, arriving on a Sunday and checking out on a Thursday or Friday (trying to avoid high weekend room rates).

I've been to Las Vegas about 3 times so far (Monte Carlo, Tuscany, Sahara), each time with my wife, and I didn't really spend any time at all playing poker (a few hours in a cash game at the Flamingo on the last trip, literally the day that COVID hit the news in North America). This time my wife has suggested that I go on my own so that I can play poker for as long as I want (Woohoo!)

I'm pretty much a low stakes kind of player (1/2 or 1/3 NLHE cash, maybe some FL Omaha8 if I can find it, Tournaments $100 or less, etc.). I'm really hoping to play in one or two tournaments every day, with some cash games to keep me entartained between tournaments.

With Caesars being "temporarily" closed, and with Sahara closing permanently later this month, the options for poker in Las Vegas seem to be getting more limited by the month. I've scratched a few venues off my list due to lack of tournaments and location (Golden Nugget, Santa Fe Station, Skyline, Red Rock, Boulder Station) and general sketchiness (Poker Palace, although it is only open weekends, so I wouldn't be able to play there if I wanted to).

That pretty much leaves :
  • Aria (1 tournament/day, $160)
  • Bellagio (1 or 2/day, $200)
  • Horseshoe (Ballys) (6/day, $100 & $160)
  • Mandalay Bay (2/day, $60, closed Tuesdays)
  • MGM Grand (3/day, $130)
  • Orleans (3/day, $100, $150, $200, interesting mix of non NLHE tournaments)
  • Resorts World (2/day, $200)
  • South Point (4/day, $100 $ $150, some FL O8)
  • Venetian (2/day, $200 & $300)
  • Westgate (4/day. $45, $60 & $65)
  • Wynn/Encore (2/day, $160 & $200)

I'm kind of leaning towards spending time at Horseshoe, Westgate, MGM Grand and South Point. Or maybe I'll skip the MGM and check out Orleans for some FL and non-HE action. I've looked at the reviews on Poker Atlas, and heard some good reviews for South Point and Westgate, and some less than flattering reviews for Horseshoe, Orleans and MGM Grand.

Given that these casinos are pretty spread out from each other, I was thinking that I might try to stay somewhere near the strip (Tuscany?) and walk (Horseshoe/MGM) or take a taxi/Uber (Westgate, Orleans, South Point) to each venue for one full day each.

Does anyone here have some thoughts on the above listed poker rooms, or suggestions on a possible plan?

Venetian & Resort World use card shuffler for tournament, which make a way better structure than manual shuffling.

- Check the Venetian is they have series when you are here. We were here in october and the serie was great.
- Aria daily is not as good as it used to be.

Enjoy your stay.

For tournies it's easy..avoid those daily ones in all casino's since the structure sucks monkey balls unless you like hypers.
Look at Orleans (Sunday & Friday) and South Point (Wednesday, Friday & Saturday), they do offer some good ones.

Try to plan when there are series planned at certain casino's (like WSOP circuit, series at Venetian, ...) since they often have realy nice 2-day structures.
3 more weeks and I'm back...WSOP circuit at Horseshoe, WPT at Wynn and Winter Festival at Orleans.

Horseshoe (summer) and Tuscany (not during summer) are both the best 'budget' option for prime location for the poker venues.
