You're not alone, Canada does the same thing, equally stupid in my mind. I paid someone $ to ship an object from this part of the USA to another part of the USA. Then I went and got it and brought it back over the border into Canada myself. But somehow CRA is entitled to sales tax on the domestic shipping within the USA? Go f*&# yourself, CBSA.

Actually I was stopped the other day as I was over $300 USD on chips and they did not make me add the shipping fee in the total (I even asked the border person). That is not to say she may have been wrong. When you drive through the border with packages there is a lot at the discretion of the border agent (that is why I am always extra polite!).
