Hello Everyone,

I'm an avid board gamer and I currently use a set of Desert Heats for money in my board games. I picked them up 4 to 5 years ago. I have been looking to upgrade them as the weight makes them a pain to carry to my board game nights. Been looking into the Bank chips from Apache for my next set, but always looking at full custom sets (who isn't!). I have really been learning a lot since joining...almost 4 years ago. Thank you all and hello officially!

wow, nice lurking. What made you break the silence now?

As I was doing more reading, learning and admiring of everyone's sets I wanted to ask questions and to slowly start participating more. I felt the new member intro was a good place to start. I also didn't originally feel as though I had much to offer as a board gamer and not a huge poker player, but my board game group has starting talking about low stakes cash games every once and a while now too.

The group that I play poker with actually plays more board/table top than we do poker so I know where you are at. Someone in that group effectively collects kick started board games and has a goal to play 100 goals in 2022. I don't think he will make it was he's in the 40s, but he's making a good effort so far. He showed me a game a few weeks ago that had some interesting plastic injection molded poker chips used as tokens and was interested in my opinion of them based on my interest in poker chips.

Got any favorite board games?

Favorite board games is always a tough question as a group we tend to cycle through games frequently. We often come back to Brass: Birmingham, The Gallerist, Viticulture, Food Chain Magnate, and Concordia. I try to work Taverns of Tiefenthal in as well. Do you have an favorites? Which game had the injection molded chips?

I've actually never heard of any of those games, which given the number of games on the market doesn't really surprise me.

We have a tendency to play games that are relatively easy to pick up without a lot of rules because we frequently have someone there who isn't that into games. Recent favorites have been Ankh, Parks, Wingspan, and a bunch of games I can't remember the name of. We played gloomhaven for a long time once Covid hit over TTS and I got into the frosthaven kickstarter, but I never imagined it'd be 2 years later and I'd still be waiting. I've played Terraforming Mars a bunch as well, but only over tablets, in person it seems very complicated.

At times we play games that include our spouses and normally play games like secret hitler that are less about engine building or long term strategy. We had a game of "Welcome to..." that was we all had scores that were 2-3x the score of our spouses so we try not to repeat that.

I don't remember the name of the game, we didn't play the game he just got them out and showed me then put them away.

That makes total sense. I have to tailor the games I bring to each game night based on who is going to be there. I spend a lot of time planning the best games for each group and I get a lot of satisfaction when everyone has a great time. Wingspan is great! I love it for teaching engine building as its a great way for someone to get their toes wet. That way if they don't like it I know not to bring out the heavier games.

Oh man 'Welcome to...' can have that problem. I mentor a high school age kid and he and I have played it 30 times plus at this point and we have gotten really good at it. I try not to bring it out too often with others, as I can run away if I am not careful so I try to teach as a go so that others can learn the strategies.

Have you tried Wavelength or Wits and Wagers? Those are two games I really enjoy when we have a game night with everyone significate others. You can even use your chips for Wits and Wagers as well which is fun.
There's a fair number of board gamers on here. Check out the board game thread.
Thank you! I didn't even think to look for a thread.
