For my upcoming CPC order, I'm looking to buy 1,200 chips to fill the two 600 piece birdcages that I have. I want to be able to run games from .25/.50NL to 1/2NL I'll probably add on in the future, but this is what I'm looking at right now:

.25 x 200
$1 x 300
$5 x 500
$20 x 160
$100 x 40

Total bank = $10,050

Our cash games are usually about 6-8 players and I usually let players buy in for up to 200BBs at any stakes. Even at 1/2 with 20 $400 buy-ins (it'll most likely never run that deep) that still leaves me with a little over $2,000 in the bank. Does this look like an acceptable breakdown?

Also, am I crazy for wanting so many chips? o_O

EDIT: What racks work best for CPCs (FDL molds)? I have a bunch of the 67.7 Chipco racks from PGI, so I'm hoping they'll work.

I could do it with half that many... so you have enough. If I were going to try to stretch the 1/2 game to two tables (18 players) I would increase the $20 to 200 and the $100 to 80. I'd lose some of the $5 to to 420 deal with the increase of the others.

You're not crazy (consider the source) and imo that's the minimum number of $5s you want for two tables. Breakdown looks good to me, but personally I'd prolly just do a rack of 20s and a rack of hundos. I find with my upper denoms I like getting some of each in play. That would let you have some flexibility but look better in storage for your OCD while making the bank ballah. Or do 6 racks of $5s and split the last rack 60/40 for $20 and hundos.

For racks I use a variety depending on wear, color, mold and what fits. I haven't worried too much about it but Chipcos work well in my experience, although you may have to get some wear on stacks of some color to make them fit.

That was the exact break down of one of my CPC sets I just received, so yeah, imo it works great and you can stretch to two table as long as the games are not too big... Pr0n as soon as I finish oiling them...

Breakdown looks good to me. Would echo @courage in saying that's the minimum amount of $5s you would want to spread $1/2 NL. There really should not be any $20s or $25s in the initial buy-ins in $1/2 imo.

The $5 are going to be your workhorse in the 1/3 game, and the $1 will carry a lot for your $.25/.50, Never underestimate the number of $5 chips you will want or need. They get used a lot. Especially when you start the rebuys. Personally I like having that third option in the 1/2 game of the $25, but that's just me. As far as your breakdown goes, I would think you will find it functional. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your input. Eventually I'd like to expand to

200 x .25
400 x $1
600 x $5
200 x $20
100 x $100

Unless you want the flexibility to have two tables, you only need one rack of fracs. Get more $5s. Also, order +5 of each denomination even tho CPC throws in extras, just so you have some spares.

I'll pass on some advice I received from others re: set expansion - if at all possible, order the entire quantity of any denomination you want in a single order. This prevents slight color mismatches that can occur when chips are produced using different batches of clay, and bypasses the possibility that the color is discontinued/reformulated before you order your add-on (no more old pink!).

This was the perfect thread for me. I'm looking to start the same kind of home games and wasn't really sure how to fill the holes in my set. I'll probably start a little lighter on the $1s and $5s, but I do like the idea of having some reasonable stacks at these limits.

Helpful for sure. Can't wait to build the perfect set
