Anyone have experience using a "button" ante in Stud games when they don't have an appropriately sized ante chip? We could just move an ante button around during Stud rounds sto keep track of who has the ante.

We will be playing 1/2 mixed games occasionally, and the smallest chip will be .25. An appropriate ante would be .10 -.15. So I think the most elegant solution is just doing a single player ante that varies a bit based on player count. I really don't want to introduce some sort of ante chip.

The low-card Forced Bet usually serves that purpose.

If you want dead money in the pot instead of just the live Forced Bet, you might consider having the low (or the high) throw in the dead blind to cover the Antes. Either way avoids tracking a button around.

Button antes work great for cash games (especially Stud), and are both simpler than individual antes and more fair than having the bring-in player post them. Just announce the ante amount ahead of time (using a sliding scale based on # of players is fine, too).
