Hi all,

I recently purchased the start of my first Cali color set from @RainmanTrail consisting of these yummy little guys:

Unfortunately, only 10 $1's isn't going to cut it with my 25¢/50¢ game and so I am planning on replacing the Delta Club 1's with HP $2's that I just purchased from @chkmte. I also scored some Casablanca 5's from @Paulo to use as quarters. And so with some eventual label magic from @Gear the line up would look something like this:

Since this is my first Cali set, I would love to hear your feedback. Are there any other suggestions you have for the 25¢ and $1 chips? Do the red quarter and green 1 work for you? It's definitely a different look than I'm used to but maybe my brain just isn't wired for the Cali colors yet.

If I'm lucky enough to eventually find some HP $1's, should I swap them out for the green 1's since blue is a more common $1 or should I stick with the green $1 since that's the color of the original Delta Club $1? Blue 1 line up might look like this:

Looking forward to your opinions and suggestions...

Thanks,
Brian

I prefer the blue 1 for Cali colors. Have you thought about something other than green for the quarter?

In my (pretty limited) research I did in deciding how to cali-up my hybrid set, it seemed that the most common colors across Cali style sets were blue 1s, yellow 5s, and purple 25s (black 20s), and white 100s.

From what I saw, fracs were not as commonly colored the same everywhere. I personally like a brighter frac (pink, Dayglo blue, peach, orange) or something like beige I like as well.

I went pink and orange for my colors, but my options were a bit more limited since there were only so many designs to choose from in the GB. Which is also why I went black for 100s.

Bottom line... It's your custom set so make it how you want it, but if you want to stick to Cali colors I would personally make 1/5/20/25 the more standard colors and take a little more liberty with the other denoms.

Yah... I've played with a few other chips that seem to be (somewhat) available and not super expensive. But for some reason, these didn't really match the old-school color vibe of the Delta Clubs. But again, maybe that's just my Vegas color biases coming through.

Well... a green $1 is not very traditional for a Cali $1... However that is exactly what the Delta Club appears to have done. My familiarity is with the Cali Bells and Horseshoe Gardenas. These both utilize a blue $1 and a red 25c.

Yah... I was really digging on those blue Cali Bell $1's but then I was kinda stuck what quarter to use with them. I was hoping to get a non-solid quarter in the set and the 312 Cali Bells seemed like they painted me in a corner spot progression wise. I was having a tough time finding an available 312 or 314 in a different quarter color.

This was the best Cali Bell option I could come up with but those purple Scandia 500's seem to be a rare (& expensive) bird.

I'm a sucker for the pink chip so I like that first line up. I do really like that frac in the 2nd line up as well, but I think the .25 and the 20 are probably too close in color.

I don't mind the white frac either

I really like those Delta Club chips. How about keeping the Green $1 color scheme of the Delta Club?, and keeping the red 25c, which matches Cali set color scheme. The PCA primary $25 is almost a spitting image of the Delta Club $1. I actually just sold the bulk of my PCA primary set, but coincidentally, I have 2 racks of green $25s left over.

I also really like the $1 as the Huntington Park blue $1. The condition of the used PCA primary, HP $1s, California Bell $1, and/or Casablanca $5s are probably a much closer match the used condition of the Delta Club chips. (Many of the HP $2 chips I've seen in ads are in better condition.)

(I think the base color of the PCA primary $25 is technically the Paulson "Indian Blue" color, which really doesn't make much sense, since the color is way more green than blue. It's like the color was trying to be teal, but missed on the green side of the spectrum.)

Thanks for all the feedback and ideas everyone!

Perhaps that teal'ish PCA is a way to honor the green $1 in the original Delta Club set while still leaning a little towards the more traditional Cali blue. The teal has a nice old-school look that I think fits great with the rest of the set and doesn't scream $25! quite as much as the HP $2.

But dang that blue Huntington Park blue $1 sure is awesome!... especially with the pink quarter (if I can find and afford them both). It feels like a much more modern set with the brighter colors. Guess that'll give me justification for continuing to stalk the classifieds. :)

And hey... who says this has to be an either/or decision? I could certainly rotate all those quarters and 1's with the higher denoms week to week. Clearly that's the MOAR chips solution! ;)

I think they both look awesome.

Still leaning towards pink and blue though ;)

Wow, these are great! I stared at these chips for a long time, when Rainman had them for sale. Excellent job building around these. Your plans look fantastic.

+1 for pink/blue.

You can't really go wrong with any of your suggestions but personally I let out a "WOW" when I saw this lineup:

And the green HP $2 is much more available and affordable than the pink Casablanca $5... and all the chips in the set would be from California which is kinda cool. Hmmmm...

Clearly the answer is BUY ALL THE CHIPS!
:D

Not a bad idea. You could be the first person to have both a Primary and Secondary set of $0.25 & $1.00 chips to go along with your Primary high denoms. ;)

Exactly! you know... for chip security...  ... not because I have a chipping obsession.

Great set.. thought about picking it up a while back, but ultimitely decided they were too worn for my tastes.
Though I did think about $1s and fracs.. personally I think the HP $2 is a great choice for relabeling as the $1 chip and it was on the top of my list
some other options

Since I have some Delta Clubs, took pics of some of the other chips you were thinking about as well as others..

I think a red works well as a frac (though not so much as a $1).. the Norwegian Cruise Line has a fuchsia edgespot that is the same exact as the edgespot on the $5, the other light blue edgespot also exactly matches the edgespot on the $100.

With the APB .. again, personally think the red frac will work and like this lineup, especially since both chips can be found and for a good price

Aztar base color (same as the original Delta $1) and edgespots colors work well.. downside is the spot pattern not matching

312 blue and white

314 white frac

Blue with 312 spot pattern...

This one is just for reference of the look of a blue with the 314 spot pattern as that RVCL $1 is fairly unobtainable
upload_2017-12-9_19-57-47.png

Fuchsia base color of the Karl's matches the fuchsia edgespot of the $5, though I don't think I like 312 spot pattern with this set

Holy crap! Thanks for that! That's so awesome! I need to come back to this post tomorrow when I have less bourbon in me. Top notch stuff! Seriously dude! I think my exclamation key is now stuck!!!

Not sure anybody would be able to make ones out of Claim Stake $25's. Unless somebody has found a cheap cache somewhere, they're just too expensive.

So first of all... thanks again for all those pics... It's one thing to doink around with mockups from the chip guide but it's another thing to see some real pics of them together.

Since I have some Delta Clubs

So second of all... DIBS! :)

But some other thoughts as I absorbed those ideas...

I really noticed how the HP $2 is a mirror image of the original Delta Club $1 chip. Dark green/Day green/Arc yellow? vs Day green/Dark green/Arc yellow? Something definitely appeals to me to stay true to the original set.

You've definitely added a few chips to my radar of things for which to be on the lookout in the future.

The multi-colored 312's felt out of place with the rest of the chips for me. Something about them feel just a bit too modern so I think those are out for me.

I surprisingly quite liked the look of the 314 chips for the quarter. Probably not the HS since the colors are a little too matchy with the green 1. But definitely something to consider. So does anyone know of a red or pink 314 chip?.... on the THC mold... available by the rack... for about a buck a chip... Yah... maybe that HS $1 isn't so bad after all.

Thanks again for the ponder foder!

no prob
only have a sample set of Deltas
yep, HP $2 works well as the $1 in the set (all the colors are different than the original $1, but very similar color combo)
around the $1 per chip range, the Casablancas (and maybe the HP $1s if you find some) are good frac options

I came up with a nice quarter option using the California Bell $1, but unfortunately I'm already using the red Trop $5 in my hot stamp set so it won't work for me. But perhaps someone else working on a Cali color set might find it helpful.
