I'm putting in an group buy order for a cash set. Planning on. 25/.25 but possibly more down the road. I was gunna go with

200-. 25
200- $1
200- $5
100 - $20
25 - $100

Is this enough or do I need more $1s or $5s? Also looking for advice on nl vs limit and how to set up limits? Thanks in advance

Share a little about your game; players, stakes, buy-ins… You’ve come to the right place.

We play .25/.50. We like 2 racks of fracs, 3 racks of workhorses, and we have around 100 500 plaques and maybe 10 or so $25 plaques.

More about what you guys are doing Nd someone will weigh in.

Yeah our poker game also plays .25/.25 and that set up is easily enough for a game of 10 people, max buying in $250 per night.

A lot of folks will say one rack of fracs is plenty, and it is but, moar chips/less change making.

300 workhorses (1’s in our case) is best.

When we used bigger denoms I’d do 3 to 4 barrels of 5’s and finish the rack with 25’s.

We’ve moved on to plaques but something along those lines covers us well and we go North of $800 in the bank nightly.

We have about 8-10 players. Most of them are new including myself. I ran a tournament the other weekend and it turned out awesome, but we wanna try out a cash game. Nobody in my group cares about loosing 50-100 dollars, and we have talked about a higher stake game than that in the future as well.

The typical break down is

.25 - 100
1 - 200
5 - 200
20 - 80
100 - 20

I would suggest not buying 200 fracs, its a waste.
I would also suggest not putting the denom '.25' on the chip, put an X or leave the denom off. Better to use it as a .25 until you take your game to .5/.5 or .5/1
Most on here would also suggest you buy at least 300 or 400 5s

I've been hosting a game for a few years now, we went from .25/.5 to .5/.5 and it has helped speed up the game. People like to talk and get distracted so if that happens the small and big defacto check, and the dealer moves the game along.

The last game was a bit smaller than typical, and we had about 1500 on the table, we've had 250+ preflop pots as well. I would suggest 400 5s in the case you think ppl will play higher stakes

If it was me, and this is a buy-once-cry-once situation, I would probably get an extra rack of $1 and consider an extra rack of $5. Will cover a broader range of stakes as you other other people you play with want to test the waters of 0.25/0.50 and 0.50/1. Inflation will get you there eventually if nothing else will.

Welcome to the forum. If you have 8-10 players that don’t mind losing $100 a night and it sounds like your stakes will grow with disposable incomes, I would go with this break down. I run a $1/$2 game and this should work for your current game while future proofing your game as well.
120-. 25
200- $1
300- $5
100 - $20/$25
100 - $100

You cover 10 players $500+ buy in.
That‘s a lot (of room).

Just 100 fracs, add some 1s and 5s, and you‘re good for up to 1/3 NL games!

Thank you guys for the input I'm going to update my set to
25¢ - 125
$1 - 300
$5 - 200
$20 - 100
$100 - 25

Do you guys prefer no limit or limit holdem?

No limit for hold 'em. Limit for mixed games or for introducing new players and making sure their buy ins last the length of a session instead of disappearing in one hand.

General rule of thumb is that no limit should be set so the usual buy in is 100 big blinds and for limit 25 big bets. So if you play $25 buy ins, you would use .25/.25 blinds for NL and .50/1 small and big bets for limit. Obviously you'll get your own feel for what's right.

Agree. Not a fan of limit flop games other than pot limit. Dull, dull, dull.

You'll be suprised how big the pots can get in limit stud and other mixed games. Especially split pot games like Stud8.
