I'm trying to help out a friend that is looking to start an underground game.

He has a budget of $600. Games will be $1/1 and $1/2 NL with $300 buy-in.

Looking for enough chips to run 2 tables, so about 1000 chips with a lot $5's in it.

I have tried to convince him to up his budget to $700 or so to get a custom set of ceramics but he tells me that $600 is his cap.

Let me know what you have, custom China clays you want to get rid of, a set of ceramics you don't use anymore.

He is looking to avoid mass produced chips that can be found on Amazon, eBay etc for chip security reasons since he will be taking a small rake. A group buy set would be fine, they aren't all over the place.

Thanks,
Adam

Order veneratis new at. 39 per chip I believe. Get whatever breakdown you want

Sounds like he's wanting something not so mass produced, for security reasons. Although, I'm not sure where he's going to get 1000 semi-rare chips for $600.

He's kind of forced into the mass-produced market with that budget.

Absolutely. He could always relabel one of the China clays. Something tells me he won't do that either

He doesn't want to get chips that someone can bring into the game by going onto Amazon in 5 minutes though.

He wants something semi-custom. Like custom labeled China Clays. Buying a new set big enough would be over $700.

I am now working convincing him to order $600 worth of custom ceramics and then order more as the game grows. He can get enough for 1 table with $600.

I have a bunch of Aztar $5s for sale. If he goes the mixed route, he could score a bunch of the $5s on his budget.

Another option would be to get 1000 Blank Milano or Blank Majestics and then get 2000 custom labels from Gear Labels (owner is @Gear on these forums). That could probably be done for right around $600-$700.

Not the perfect solution, since anyone could duplicate the chip/design after the first game, but they'd have to go through a lot of effort to do so. I think it would provide some fairly decent game security.

Relabeled China Clays will still be over $700. Blank Milano's can bought for about $350 per 1000 but labels from Gear would be another $300 or so and that will take forever to apply them all.

tell hiim to budget more, for a $300 buyin trying to run 2 tables at 1/1 and 1/2.

2 8-handed tables where each person averages a $200 buyin. there will be $3200 in play. if half the players reload at anytime, there will be $5k in play.

I would try to accommodate up to $10-11k for a bank.

340 x $1s
600 x $5s
100 x $25
60 x $100

1100 total chips for a $12kish bank

We play $1/1 with a $300 max buyin, 1 table average probably 4k per night

Agreed, you'd probably be looking at $650 out of pocket. But honestly... I've labeled 1000 chips in one (long) evening of watching crappy TV. :)

I'd loan him 100 bucks so you can get his game off on the right foot with some personalized customs.QUOTE]

If nothing comes of this I may do just that and work out a deal on rake back. He really doesn't have much idea how to actually run a game. He just plays and wants to make some extra money.

They aren't custom but he could get Wicked Spades or Tiki Kings or Black Betty chips for 57c each from brpropoker.com if he buys 1000

I know BB is an exclusive and WS and Tiki Kings aren't mass produced. I have only seen them at 3 locations.

1000 would run him $570. With shipping, $594. (I just priced it).

Poker Knights (or similar Monaco Club, etc.) will run about 16c each, plus the cost of custom labels from @Gear (go the cheapest route he offers). He ends up with 1000 semi-custom chips well under his budget, including all shipping. Spend some extra saved cash on some decent plastic card setups.

Brilliant.

And I must say, for a plastic chip, I do dig those Poker Knights!

per 1000 but labels from Gear would be another $300 or so and that will take forever to apply them all.

Five nights tops, at two hours per night...... once you get the hang of it, they apply really fast. I think it's kind of funny that he wants a $300 buy-in game, but won't spend more than two buy-ins for chips o_O

Hahaha, good point. Unfortunately he is "one of those guys" we all know that think chips are not that big a deal. He has no problem playing with dice chips! o_O:(

Thats what i was thinking too.

even less. apache has milano blanks for 30c/chip, but only in 7 most frequently used colors. pcm has milanos at 30c/chip (cheaper than blanks, go figure), so 1000 = $300 either way, and he can get some different colors, too. pull the stickers off and you have blanks.
gear labels are 15c/each, so 2 per chip, that's 30c/chip for labels. 1000 chips = $300 for custom labels.

wah lah. 1000 new custom labeled china clay chips for $600.

another possibility (i'm still thinking of doing this myself):

buy 600-650 BCC t-mold blanks from hold'em at 69c/chip.
ship to cgraham for custom hot stamps (20c/chip + $15 for a custom dye).

he can wait to add 350-400 more until after he has the game going strong enough and made some money.

the chips cannot be duplicated without a hot stamp machine, and no one else can use his custom dye. it's not like stickers that almost anyone with a printer could fake (not necessarily at the same quality, but in a dark room, people might not catch them.) so that's better security than he can get pretty much anywhere else.

Lots of great ideas posted here! I appreciate all the help and creative thinking (y)
