Wanted Cash set for a friend for Omaha Hi/Lo (1 Viewer)

I am going to go on vacation here in about 10 days and a friend of the family is letting me stay at their house so I don't have to get a hotel. They are using dice chips and I thought it would be a great gift idea to get him a somewhat decent set of chips. They use a $1, $5, $10 and $25 dollar chip. They really enjoy just throwing out the $10 chip to make the $10 bet as I've asked before why not just use a couple of $5's. I just got the stare down so the $10 chip is great for them.

They play a weekly game with $5/$10 limits and $1/$2 blinds. The buy-in is up to $200, but most buy in for $100.

It is a single table game so with there being up to 4 rounds of betting and them not wanting to make a lot of change any suggestions?

I was thinking
100 - $1's
200 - $5's
100- $10's
40 - $25's

One concern is they say the chips slide a lot. This game is in Texas and they play in an outdoor shed with a crappy air conditioner. I don't know if the humidity would account for chips sliding or just the use of crappy chips. They have tried other chips that have denominations on them but same result. I think the are probably slugged chips too.

Just seeing if there was something out there that I have looked over in the classifieds.

looking to spend maybe $250 - $300 on a set.

Majestics from Apache would be my first choice in that budget.
 
I was thinking those majestic too but my concern is the extreme heat that they could be exposed to and the brittleness as which I have read about. He only has the air conditioner on when he is having a game and Texas is hot as balls. Something like the BJ Yakama chips or something is what I first thought of.

Maybe ceramics? I have no experience with any of them, but the Nile Clubs look cool.
 
Pretty sure those chips saw temps in manufacture that would make Texas room temp seem like an ice box. For 39 cents you can afford to be carefree.
 
For a decent chip in that environment and budget -- and if in a hurry --I'd get a stock design set of ceramics from BRPro (aka ABC) -- lots of options for 60c per chip at your order quantity level. Ceramics can withstand a lot of punishment, both temperature extremes/humidity and physical abuse.

Have 'em make a custom-denom $10 chip if you insist; you can even change the text on some of the designs.

I don’t know if it’s still possible to get in on the sunfly hybrid group buy, but those would be sweet and near the top end of your budget.
 
The group buy would be nice but I’ll be there from the 10th-19th of this month. May be too little too late

After digging a little bit more I found out they play twice a week and one of the games is a bit bigger. One of the days they do a Omaha 5/10 game with a half kill on scooped pots. This game is a $300 buy in so my initial 400 chip set I was looking for isn't going to suffice. With the half kill the BB goes up to $15. Should I be looking at a set that has maybe 400 $5s or so or keep it at 200 and add more $10's and $20's?

This game is a hi/lo and will have about 8-10 regulary.
 
If you want chips that don't stack in uniform heights, might not be completely round, are made from unknown chinese recycled ingredients, and smell funny, the china clay chips (Milano and Majestic) are great options. Otherwise, for your budget, I'd agree with the suggestion to get some decent ceramics from BRPro.
 
My original thought was that a starting stack for the $300 buy in would be
20 x $5
10 x $10
5 x $20

So the set containing....
100 x $1
200 x $5
200 X $10
100 x $20

Does this sound about right?

Yeah, I guess. I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around the useless $10 chips, when those numbers (and $$) could be used so much better elsewhere.

I hear ya. I feel the same way but they are adamant about it. What would you suggest?
 
Hmm. Up to 600 chips now. And a bit wonky on denoms. This would be hard to do outside a plastic slugger or china clay. Even a full custom ceramic set at this price will be $500. CC would be a more palatable $250-ish.

The games look like they're getting pretty big. Maybe the group of them would consider throwing $50-100 each into a pot to buy a really nice set of chips.

It is very odd. Never played it before. I think part of the reason they are looking for those demons is because of the split pot aspect. They have $25 chips at the moment so those aren’t easy to chop. I’ll figure something out.
 
I know it's considered heresy around here but if I was you, I wouldn't go investing in chip set that the recipient won't appreciate/know the difference between a 15c chip and a $1 chip. Why not take a sample set along with you and ask them which chips they like the feel of then you can send them a thank you present after you're back home. Also, finding stock $10 and $20 denoms in the same set is going to limit your options significantly.
 
at the late ACF the denom for the 2-2 (sb is same as bb) was 2 10 and 100
it makes the game very fluid and personally i never understood why live its not 2-2 (less change to be made and faster pace of play)

anyhoo, my experience with ceramics is that they probably more slipery than clay (personal oppinion feel free to disagree)

those chips look nice, if you can confirm there is a real casino they make a rather special gift,
they look like bourgogne grasset but they are not
being non denom you kind of solve the problem since they can choose which is which and even change depending on how big the game is
also as the seller mentions it could be relabeled to make a nice custom home game
you would have to negotiate with seller tgough
