A friend of mine is buying a set of chips but doesn't want to spend more than $200 USD for a 500 pc cash set. 25c, $1, $5, $25.

He's gonna pick up some 13gram slugged nonsense, but if I can find him a set for under $200 I might be able to save him from getting slugged chips.

So far I can only think of CPS, Milanos and maybe Dunes.

Any other options you can think of? He has a set of Pharaoh's China clay that are flaking to bits so he's used to white $1 and blue quarters.

I was the king of cc and if I could do it all over again I would of just bought a nicer set but say 300 chips for now to keep the price down low

There is a 680 set of cps for 275 in the classifieds. It might be possible to sell off the extras off

This is tough situation. You don't want him buying cheap slugged crap, but then he has flaky China Clay crap...so not much upgrade to any other China Clay I would think. The new Dunes are nice though.

Veneratis might be the only play for something decent and durable (but some are out of stock at the moment). Valentinos as suggested above get pretty darn expensive at like .70-.80 cents a chip.

For those prices, I'd save some money and buy some Horseshoe Cincinnati chips from The Chip Exchange and just have the real thing (I use the $25 as quarters and it works great). Once you have Paulson chips, everything else (excluding CPC) seems like a waste of money.

I would recommend the Veneratis, they aren't the best ceramic out there but IMHO they are the best chip at this price point.

Are there still a bunch of Royal Yak chips floating around?

Is your friend in Canada, and is that price the cost of the chips, or the total cost shipped to their door? If it's the shipped cost, then the market shrinks considerably due to the $50+ USD shipping costs charged by some vendors for 500 chips.

BRPro Poker has them listed $0.57-0.74, depending on quantity. But for 500 chips it will be just over $333, so too expensive for him. I suggest to keep looking at the classifieds here. We all have the same sickness, so we should be able to help you.

China clays for his price point, & at least he will get something that approximates a clay chip, rather than a clanky slugged anvil or or slippery / plastic nonsense ...

In the .40c price range, spend just a few extra bucks and go new Dunes CC, 500 chips for $210 (plus the ridiculous shipping to CA, I know). Find some way to ship to US location and drive them across border.

/all I got.

Oh I should have caught that part, Venerati's cost me $333 CAD shipped, for 500. $200 CAD Isn't going to get you much. If there is no room for movement on the price, he's pretty much stuck to whatever ABS chips he can get shipped cheaply.

I got valentino chips directly from sunfly with custom colors and edge spots aligned for .44 cents a chip

Add Majestics and Veneratis to that list. Not much else new that's decent and available for 40c chip or less.

I was thinking Majestics but Apachee is out of stock for quarters and dollars. I don't see Veneratis in stock anywhere sadly but I think I see them on eBay all the time. Good idea.

Ceramics are a good option. My semi-custom Valentino's from BRPro Poker were very reasonably priced. Worth looking into.

Oooo these are nice. I must have forgot all about these. Definitely an option. Thanks.

Yea the new Dunes are really nice but it's just past his price point sadly.

$200 USD for a 500 pc cash set.

Canadian dollars? Recently?

What part of this great land do you call home.

East, very East.

So, budget of $200 USD is approx $266 CDN (http://www.bankofcanada.ca/rates/exchange/currency-converter/).

I would consider the Crazy Horse chips at Straight Poker in Toronto, since they offer free shipping. They are the Milano chip with a different label. So, china clay, and probably the best "clay" chip available within our borders. The number of vendors and/or selection up here is...errr...limited.

If MRC Poker's site ever comes back (they are apparently offline for a warehouse move), the Laurel Crown ceramics may also be available. I can't remember the price off-hand, though (@roguematt , do you remember how much yours were?).

Here are some options for the CH chips. You may have height differences between the 25c (old stock) and the remaining chips. For shipping, I used St. John's NL (my hometown before moving to Ottawa...you don't get much farther East).

Setup 1
8 rolls of the 25c (old stock) (200 chips)
8 rolls of the $1 (new stock) (200 chips)
3 rolls of the $5 (new stock) (75 chips)
3 rolls of the $25 (new stock) (25 chips)

Total cost shipped to your door (tax incl): $232.16 CDN.
Under your budget, but you'd have to find a case.

Setup 2
500 chip set w/case. You may have to ask them if you can substitute in the "old" stock 25c chips

Total cost shipped to your door (tax incl): $264.49 CDN
Just under your budget, but you'd have to find out if you can mix/match chips.

Setup 3
8 rolls of the 25c (old stock)
1 roll of the $5 (new stock)
1 roll of the $25 (new stock)
1 550 chip case (they don't have a 500...)
300 piece set in wooden box (8 roll of 1, 4 rolls of $5) (Sell the 300-chip wooden case on Kijiji...)
Total chip set: 200 x 25c, 200 x $1, 125 x $5, 25 x $25

Total cost shipped to your door (tax incl): $318.50 CDN
Over the budget, but more chips...

The Veneratis are available stock at Buypokerchips.com some denoms may be out of stock. 500 for $195 USD before shipping.

Looks like the following are available
black non-denom x 200
$1 x 200
$5 x 75
$25 x 25

That would work. Looks like $35 USD for shipping via UPS. While there's no Customs duties, there probably will be sales tax due.

In addition to the above, since it's UPS, there will also be a brokerage fee of $46 CDN and a bond fee of 2.7% of the value of the goods (so, around $7) (Source: https://www.ups.com/media/en/ca/ca_brokerage.pdf) due upon delivery (by comparison, USPS / Canada Post doesn't charge a bond fee, and the brokerage fee is $9.95).

I couldn't find them for sale on their site. I saw a press release but no option to buy them. Gotta link?
Sun-Fly direct prices for Valentino chips are 61c each plus shipping. Minimum order 200 pcs.
http://www.apollonchips.com/chipseries/valentino.html

There are several chip lines listed at 50c per chip. I do not recall ever seeing Sun-Fly prices lower than that.

Those are all great prices for the Valentinos. I actually like the chips a lot even thought the colors are a bit muted for me (I have some color blindness so certain chips blend together).

Don't forget to double check the shipping though. Last time I was messing around on Sunfly's site, shipping to me was $100 for like 400 chips. That changes the price per chip quite a bit.
