I was recently admiring these chips.. from 50 cents to 100 they are beautiful. With one exception, the $5 with the giant inlay. What happened to this chip? Is it just me, or is the $5 a complete train wreck? Was there a version of this chip without the giant inlay covering the whole chip? For those who own sets of Aztar Caruthersville, what do you do?

You use these instead:

And if you have a mint PCA secondary set and want the molds and shaped inlay sizes to match, you use this instead of the RHC $1 chips:

Yep, all of the other cash set chips are THC with real shaped inlays - see pic posted by @bentax1978 above. The secondary set also contains a pretty sweet 50c chip:

The primary set is decent, too, and the spotted hot-stamped tournament set is one of the nicest ever produced (although it is all RHC):

Great looking for sure. Extreme fail on that five chip! I always thought it was part of a rhc set. The primary chips are all rhc, right? Or are the rhc chips from another casino aztar?

Primaries are THC too. The RHC Aztar you're thinking of are from Indiana (if I recall correctly).

Nope, the primary set is also all THC with real shaped inlays (except for a nearly-identical horrid $5 chip). The Casino Aztar (MO) cash chips contain 50c, $1, $5, $25, and $100 denominations, and had both primary and secondary sets.

The RHC Aztars you are referencing are Casino Aztar (IN), and both the primary and secondary cash sets contain RHC 50c, $1, $2.50, $5, $25, $100, and $500 chips along with oversize 43mm $1000 chips on the IHC mold.

It's a fascinating set, this Caruthersville. The way the $5 stands out ...

Were these originally a chip room sale? I imagine Jim had to discount the 5s a bit.

Shouldn't be too hard on those chips though. They're so crazy I'd be tempted to buy a rack ;)

It was. I don't remember the prices, but the $5 chips (both primary and secondary) were not only dreadful designs, but they were both in play at the casino and are among the worst worn bicycle tire chips I've ever seen. All of the other secondary chips were mint/new.

Thanks for enlightening me. Holy shit I really wonder what they were all thinking making that 5$ chip....

At least bentax has the solution to the problem!

I certainly can't take credit for the solution itself, pretty sure it's always been a popular substitute.

I've owned the PCA chips for 4+ years, the Aztars are a more recent addition. I've still never owned an Aztar $5, which I'm totally fine with.
