So, I just found a bunch of these dollar casino tokens from a variety of different casinos.

Are they still using these in machines? Seems like everything is digital now.

Are they still honored at the casinos? Live? Or do folks collect them?

Folks definitely collect them, but not many of the folks around here do (although some do!). Gaming token collectors have more in common with coin collectors than with we poker chip fanatics.

Maybe someone else can answer your questions about whether they're still live. There's a few people that I know collect old slot machines, so maybe one of them knows more about the history and current status of these sorts of tokens.

I own some old tokens from Nevada Club Reno that at one time worked in their dollar machines.
The slot machine I own from NL/NC only takes quarters.
I’m pretty sure one of the machines that @liftapint owns takes those old tokens or U.S. silver dollars.
I don’t collect tokens personally but there is definitely a market for them. I’m not sure if any of the tokens pictured would still be live or not.
@JWC could probably give you a much better answer on the tokens than I could.

Yep, my slot takes the tokens. I was a little over-excited when I got the machine and bought HUNDREDS of the tokens. I don’t even think the machine cash box would hold them all, haha.

We need a slot machine showcase thread!!

Love the antique slot machines. I always liked the old Mills or Roll-a-top slots.

There’s something sad about not hearing that ‘clank-clank’ sound in casinos of the coins being paid out.

I figured that there would HAVE to be people that do collect the coins. I mean, in reality, there are people that collect anything.
I just thought I’d see more of it here - but makes sense that it’s more in line with coin collectors or coin operated machine collectors.

I love the tokens, i have bought a few through eBay just because i think it would be fun to play poker with them. I dont have enough for a game yet but i have a couple hundred, paid around 50 cents each for most but i have paid premium prices for ones from ceasers, dunes, stardust and the playboy club in london just because i thought they were cool.
