This is a matchup that would probably produce a different outcome if the chips were removed from the pics (just show the inlay)...not that I'm asking anyone to do that.

Solid agreement here. It's like asking which lingerie you like better, the flannel pajamas on the super-hot sex goddess, or the sexy lace thing on the manatee.

Color matching aside, how does anyone (other than slisk who has personal reasons) prefer the Mapes inlay over the well thought out Caesars?

I'm sadly disappointed in jbutler for even posting such a biased poll.

I really think the oversized photographic inlay for Caesar's suck. I would not vote for it over most of the other chips. It has nothing to do with owning a tribute set of these either. There are other Caesars chips I like better so it would not even win against other inlays from the same casino.

It's not even close for me. Mapes inlays are the clear winner. The inlay on Mapes is near perfect IMO. Vintage, simple, clean. Classic. The Caesar's inlays are absolutely hideous to me. Giant inlays with pictures of statues? No thanks. Those are almost as bad as the PNY inlays. They look like those limited edition chips that I can't wait to get rid of if they're in my stacks at card rooms. The first chips into the pot for me.

Also, for those of you who think the Mapes are only popular because of their TRK colors and edge spots, I'd like to point out that the Money Tree TRKs don't have near the demand as the Mapes do, despite being in better condition. The reason for this is the inlay, obviously. There are also several tribute sets out there with tweaks to the Mapes inlay.

Of course, everyone has their own tastes, but for me, it's Mapes all the way.

This actually brings up a question for me here. Does the size of the inlay on the chip matter for this competition or is it just the actual inlay design itself? It wouldn't change anything for me in this instance but it might influence some people one way or the other.

As with all these polls that I post, I try not to be too restrictive in my instructions on what to evaluate and how, mostly because people are going to do what they want anyway and there's little point in trying to make it appear that it's a referendum on something that it's not.

For myself, the size of the inlay plays into my overall view of the design as it would with any design. In this case, Zombie's pic illustrates why the size of each of these inlays is an advantage for each. The Mapes design looks ridiculous as a giant inlay and the Caesars design, while maybe not ridiculous when blown up on a computer screen, would be too small to see the font and details IRL.

I ended up going Mapes, but it was slightly close. I'm a big fan of the Caesars AC set and since it's the only AC set that got into the Sweet Sixteen it's kind of special to me. But overall I think the Mapes design is just more interesting, more creative, and overall makes better use of the space.

Yeah I voted for Caesars but honestly didn't think of it as a giant inlay vs. standard inlay (or whatever the correct sizing terminology is). I purely looked at it from a design standpoint. And tbh not even as which design I would prefer on my own chips but just as a design per se.

I do love the fact that the Caesars inlay as a whole is monochromatic (with tones that match the chips base...great affect) but has the cool yellow denom. An inlay should have some color to it after all.

It's all good... @Poker Zombie we're fighting a losing battle for sure. Lol

The Caesars do nothing for me.

They look like something you'd pick up in an Italian souvenir shop, cheap tourist tat! ;)

Not that the Mapes is my idea of inlay perfection either, mind.

I haven't voted on this one yet, but it looks like it won't matter.
I hate giant inlays; it would take a lot for me to vote for one.
But I HATE black and white inlays. I do like the Mapes inlay's vintage looks (and I love the chips themselves) but the black and white just grinds on me. It's like somebody ran them off in their xerox machine.
And as far as giant inlays go, the Caesars are pretty cool.
It's really a tossup for me, but because I have VERY mixed feelings about both.

100% agree. Chips are beautiful but if you isolate the inlay I think the Caesar inlays win.
