Hey,

I need to buy a cheap tournament set and looking for recommendations. I want denominations 5,25,100,500,1000 in a 1000pce set

I wont be keeping these forever but want something a little better than the dice chips I have now

My main priorities are increasing security, and having denominations labelled on the chips

I did search for cheap tournament chips but did not find a reasonable answer (although I imagine this has been asked before)

Thanks for your help

Poker Knights = 15c / chip
Milanos = 30c / chip
Majestics = 36c / chip

Thats pretty much what Im looking at in the low to medium range.

I am ruling out the majestic as I am looking at getting these for a cash game set.

Poker knights look amazing, are these china clays?

Are there any known issues with these chips (I have heard about the thickness issues, and sizing issues with other china clays)?

Poker knights are slugged plastic composite I believe. Im going with the Milanos, cash and tourney.

Well at least they will be consistent, I think they will do for now as I am already planning on replacing them with customs thanks for your help

Jester ceramics from new-sponsor Texas Poker Supply, 15c each. Can't beat this deal anywhere......

Not sure I understand your reasoning. Majestics are available as 5c / 25c / $1 / $5 / $20 / $25 etc.

I want to have two separate sets for cash and tournament as I run both concurrently, there fore I want completely different chips.

While I trust the players in the game there are sometimes new unknown people, and I like to make it as hard as possible to bring the integrity of the game into question

That's a great deal, design is not up my alley but the price more than compensates, I have emailed them asking if they have a 1000 denom chip, I also love the fact they don't have $ signs on the chips.

Thanks for your reply

Could always use the "1" chip as a 1000, or the "2" chip as a 2000. They also picture a no-denom chip, but I don't know if it's available. To be honest, you probably don't even need a 1000 chip for a T5-based tourney set.

Oh, I see, you have a Majestic tourney set already? That makes sense now :)

Currently I am using a few dice chip sets combined from the different players in the game.

I am going to order a set of Majestic chips as a cash game set, and am looking for options regarding a tournament set. We play primarily cash games but are organising a fortnightly tournament league.

@BGinGA We are talking about running 10k stacks with 15 min levels and antes. I doubt I will have more than two tables for a while. Do you think you will get away without a 1k chip for a game like this?

If you are planning on using 10K starting stacks, you don't need T5 chips (just don't start antes until blinds are 100/200, then go to 100/200/25):

sb / bb / ante
25 / 50 / 0
25 / 75 / 0
50 / 100 / 0
75 / 150 / 0
100 / 200 / 0
break
100 / 200 / 25
150 / 300 / 25
200 / 400 / 50
300 / 600 / 50
400 / 800 / 75
remove T25 chips
600 / 1200 /100
800 / 1600 / 200
etc.

For two tables, I'd use either 25/100/500/1000/5000 or 25/100/500/2000 denominations. If getting Jesters, use the 1 as 1000, 5 as 5000, and/or 2 as 2000. Using a T2000 chip will get you more bang for the buck.

Going off topic here but I appreciate the help,

There is a good mix of crazy maniacs that will get it in 5/10 w/ 10k stacks with a 6 high flush draw on the turn and more solid players that take their time and think about their decisions

the game can play so slow some times that we are lucky to get one orbit in before blinds go up (particularly after some players have had their fill)

We are creating a small league game that keeps a percentage of the buy in to fund a championship tournament at the end of the season (will have cash prizes and satellites)

we are aiming to play for 5 - 6 hours with plenty of play-ability in the early levels. I was going to go with 10k stacks and blinds starting a 5/10 with 15min levels. Do you think it would be better to start shallower and have longer levels?

All players do prefer to have a larger amount of chips on the table (regardless of value)

Thanks

Starting with 1000 BB stacks is overkill, and essentially makes the early rounds pretty meaningless in terms of pot size vs stack size.

You will end up with a much better event using 500BB stacks (25/50 blinds with T25000 stacks, or 5/10 blinds with T5000 stacks). A good structure (averaging 40% increases) with 20-minute levels will last about 6 hours.

5K stacks
10 x T5
10 x T25
12 x T100
7 x T500
-------------
39 chips

25K stacks
12 x T25
12 x T100
11 x T500
9 x T2000
-------------
44 chips

~or~

25K stacks
12 x T25
12 x T100
5 x T500
11 x T1000
2 x T5000
-------------
42 chips

Did you look at CPS chips? I believe they have all the denoms you want in your tourney set. More expensive than Milano's but the price is reflected in quality. Although Milano's are the perfect choice for a cheaper tourney set. I'm using my set for that exact purpose.

While I am yet to use china clays, I think I would rather slugged plastics over having inconsistent thicknesses in chips. And at 50c a chip I can almost get custom ceramics for this price

Not sure how quickly you need the set but you may want to follow the thread for Dunes Compression Chips.

This is a great deal for some pretty nice chips

They're slugged plastics, but they're a great bargain at fifteen cents per. Stable, feel decent, handle well. My players love them and don't understand why I collect clay samples or why I'm buying better chips. (One of them is already buying my set when my NJ Boardwalk chips come in.)

Poker Knights, Showdown, and Monacos are three different labels on the same slugged chips, so you can choose the design you prefer. (I have a set of Monacos.)

order some Unicorn chips from Game On (or I'm sure people have them for sale on here for cheap) and have some custom labels made by Gear. Those chips are cheap, feel good in play, and custom labels addresses your security concern.

Anyone have an idea on a way to save on shipping costs? At the moment from all suppliers the cost of shipping is more than the chips

No way around it. Might be able to get sent by sea mail but will take ages.

Maybe reach out to some of the other Aussies here and see if any things available. You could possibly get a better set with what you save on shipping.

Cheap Asian supplies? Contact PGI China?

What's your budget? I have a set of 600 china clay Pharoahs that I don't use anymore. Spreads up to 18 players 10,000 starting stacks.
