China Clay Stank.... (1 Viewer)

Is it possible to describe said stank?

How long to get the odor out?

Some folks have had success soaking/washing in various solutions. I didn't do that to mine so I can't speak to the specifics or the effect.

Mine were just stored in racks in birdcages and still had a slight odor at the time I shipped them out to the winner of the giveaway.

They smell of burnt carpeting - closest smell I can think of. Becomes milder over time but there will still be a faint smell.

I've always thought they smell like some kind of pungent wax - had made me wonder if wax is part of the material composition to try and make them less slippery.

Right out of the plastic place them in a huge tray with baking soda. Let the. Sit for a few days shuffling a couple times a day. It will help quite a bit.

Ultrasonic bath with a light solution of simple green seemed to remove most of the smell for me.

Yeah I sold my Pharaoh CC's because of the odor. I tried washing them but had minimal impact. Plus it just got me to go out together another Paulson pharaoh set after I sold my first one and regretted it

After over a year of stank I just sold them all off. Between the smell and the slippery stacks i couldn't deal any longer.

I put my new Dunes CC into play for the first time this past weekend. No one commented on the smell and nor did it bother me.

I washed them with soapy water, dried them, and oiled them when they were new. I also let them sit in the racks outside of a cage so they can air out. If I intentionally smell them really close yeah they still smell. But for normal use the smell is not a factor.

I do agree though that when new the smell is bad and overpowering.
