General question,
If you were the organizer of a large group buy for a chip set that you helped produce, would you feel obligated to keep a set of the chips?

As it stands now, I have 2 solid tournament sets with relatively similar colors. I don't host much anymore, but since the sets are so similar, I am not sure what to do. I like the Atlantic Club a lot, and it has more chips and better colors. At the same time, I feel like the other set has been a part of my house for the last 6 years or so.

Generally, not a nostalgic person, but I don't know what to do...

What say you?

Dibs on the other set.

I think it depends on finances honestly. If you want the nostalgia, keep a complete sample set and maybe frame it. Then you can sell the rest to recoup funds for other chips, or other things in life.

If you're flush with cash and don't expect to need the money, there's no such thing as a redundant chip set.

I'm a nostalgic person, so there's no way I could let a set go that I was an integral part of bringing to life (unless they were a disappointment).

Also, have not yet released a set that I bought back into the world. I'm a chip black hole.

There needs to be a thread for "Chipper Black Holes" (I know...not the best title  :ROFLMAO:) where the names of those who never let chips go are listed. So if you ever sell to them, say sayonara to those chips forever.

Back on track...I do have a soft spot for special meanings behind chip sets so that would play into my decision here. Hell I still have my first labelled set of Lucky Bees. They will never be put in play again but there they are.

With your massive set above, I would keep a playable set but sell most off for sure...best of both worlds.

*Edit*
Wait...one's a hot-stamp set and one's an inlayed set. Whats the problem? Two totally different sets if you ask me. Keep 'em both. :D

HA, I wish those were all mine. This was the shot after I received the GB chips. They were then sent away, and all I have left is a 1200 pc set. I've also added new chips to the mix not seen above..

Believe it or not, I was going to list them last night, but my wife (who hates poker chips) stopped me. Still thinking about it

Haha. Gotcha. Kinda figured but you never know around here.

I might consider just keeping a barrel of each denom just for shits and giggles (you know...to reminisce every once in awhile). Make it a nice neat 2 racks worth maybe.

I've never run a group buy, so, grain of salt. But I think the sets people regret selling are sets they sold because they needed the money. It sounds to me like that isn't the case here. It sounds to me like you're looking at those older group-buy chips thinking that you don't need them, that you're never going to reach for them ahead of the other set, and that the only reason you're holding onto them is that you feel like you should.
Let them go, I say.

For awhile, I was keeping 100- or 200-chip heads-up sets of various chips that I liked but couldn't justify owning or keeping a full set.

Then I realized that I never play heads-up. Ever.

That's when the the hole got really black. And deep.

They have been listed. :-) The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I no longer need them

Thank you all for the insightful conversations.

Mark

I once ran a group buy for chips I ended up not even touching. Had some cash flow issues towards the end of the GB and couldn't execute on my part of it so I found another buyer but it was a GB I coordinated. So, no, no nostalgia here. I wouldn't hang onto chips merely because you coordinated a group buy for them.

You don't have to say goodbye forever - Every chip (even my first set of slugged customs) still sees time on the felt, and there is always a seat open to PCF'ers. You can always visit. :D

It's more like watching your daughter go off to college, or getting married. You know they will have a better life, you just hate to see them go...

I'm more like a chip Husband...
