I looked for an NES classic console prior to work and on my lunch with no success today. I tried a few different places, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Toys R Us. I have two kids and figured I'd introduce them to some old school video games, and also play something I stand a chance at winning. So I checked eBay figuring I will gladly pay a premium for one if I can find one not too outrageously priced.
Then I found this person selling two for $30k for a $59 product. Not likely to sell, but thought I'd share this.

Yeah, people are going crazy. I personally think the $60 price point is a stretch but just low enough that it's still in the novelty price range. I ordered one on Best Buy last night and it's backordered but they claim it will arrive before 12/02.

Tried to get one on Gamestop last night and today and Amazon as well but could never make it through payment. Must be an outrageous number of people trying to buy these things.

I never understand the people paying like 10x the eBay going rate though. I always assume it's money laundering or people selling to their friends to get prices driven up.

I don't remember it fitting in the palm of my hand. Oh wait! Is that the NES for giants?! That explains the cost...

My buddy grabbed one this morning, I'm going to have to have one. I'll grab it the first time I see one for sale whenever that is. I think I got the original for xmas when I was eight and have loved playing vids since, gotta have this just for the taste of memberberries.

There's a long history around NES prices on eBay. A few years ago, someone sold their system for around $12k. Most people didn't understand why it sold for so much, and many thought it was because their NES system was just THAT valuable. People started listing their systems at the same ridiculous prices, but all were disappointed as no one else was paying for them. There was even an episode of Storage Wars where one of the guys thought he had stumbled upon a gold mine when he found one.

The real reason the system sold for as much as it did was because it came with a copy of what is probably the most sought after video game of all time to collectors (which I believe is the original Japanese version of Track & Field of something like that). The seller didn't even know it was worth anything, he thought it was just a throw in with a few other games he had. Whatever the game was, it's worth around 12k. There are only about a dozen of them in existence. They were canceled when someone noticed a mistake on the first day of production, if I remember correctly.

I might be messing the story up a little bit, but it's directionally accurate. You can look it up if you're interested in the true history of these.

I'll ship this sweet system out tomorrow for only $1500:

Yes to both those first ones! I forget what Zelda I liked the best, but I know it was the gold cartridge one. Adventures of link I think.

Yars revenge, space invaders, grand prix, and the soccer game where your team was three dots that all moved together as well.... :)

Have you considered a Raspberry Pi with Emulators loaded? (I assume you don't know what that is.) They can be bought in pretty robust assembled kits, or your can buy the parts and diy. It's pretty easy. I'd suggest a google search to see what you think. I's not the same experience, you don't get cartridges to blow into. But In many ways it's a better experience.

I'm not much of a gamer. I don't know what that is. The re-released NES comes preloaded with 30 or so games and it doesn't use cartridges.

@brains613 is referencing a miniature, inexpensive, computer than can be used to emulate a NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, etc. You can load the entire NES catalog on the computer and connect it to your TV.

See here for more information.

Super C was good to. Up up down down left right left right A B start, I think that's what it was...
It was up down up down left right left right B A B A (start) and it was the original Contra, not SuperC (can't grasp why they went with SuperC over Contra anyways)... one of those things that will forever take up space in my brain.
