Wanted to get the opinions of some other members as far as making less than asking $ offers when things are posted in the classifieds...

Sometimes people tend to get a little upset when you present an offer to them that's below their asking price. If you feel the asking price is a little high... I feel there's nothing wrong with making an offer less that the asking as long as its not an insulting 1/2 the price offer. If the chips are going fast then this is a non-issue, but if the post is a day or 2 old with no offers or slow traffic I see no problem with putting an offer on the table. What are your thoughts on the issue of offering less than asking?
Thanks-
Troy

As a seller it is helpful to remind oneself that the value of what you are selling is only what someone is willing to pay for it.

I agree with your premise - as long as it is not an insulting offer then no harm in making it unless the seller specifically said the price is firm. Now, if the seller is being obtuse, say, selling a $5 item for $250 then just ignore the listing and move on. Openly complaining about a seller’s asking price is a no no under the TOS.

Accept, counteroffer, or politely decline - I believe those are the only options available to the gentlemanly seller. If you get some other negative reply, it only reflects poorly on the seller.

I think you and I could be Great Friends... I like the way you think!(y)
Btw...can you please take your cold weather back to the north... we are not use to it down here in the south!!!o_O
