would you guys recommend shelling out for those over waiting to build a new set? (Paulsons trk bcc)

How about firing over some hot pics of nice customs out there?

Not an easy call on that. I am a custom chips person but, I think the majority will go with building sets with Paulsons/ trk

customs you can design your own inlays chose your spot patterns and get the exact break down you want.

Casino chips( most would say they are better than the ASM/CPC chips) if purchased at the correct price will generally hold there value and possibly increase in value over time.

Clearly there are way more arguments for both sides but I thought I would throw out a couple of main lines of thoughts for both.

And now for the chip pics.

I'd highly recommend shelling out for some Paulsons, TRK, BCC, and other peoples' customs, based on what you have locally available, and buying many sample sets.

For two reasons:

1. You won't really know what you want in a chip until after you've had some - and, preferably, hosted some games with them. Nearly everyone who went straight to customs would have done things differently. Thinking you know what you like or don't like or would want, long-term, from photos turns out to be deceptive.

2. Most Paulson, TRK, BCC, etc. chips that you buy on the secondary market will retain their value. Once you're sure you know what you want in customs, you can sell them, most likely near their cost. So there's little risk in buying them - you may even make a profit. If you order customs and don't like them, you'll most likely be unable to sell them for more than a small fraction of their cost.

I agree with Pat. Not an easy call but I am on the other side of the fence. I collect nothing but Paulson casino chips and primarily Las Vegas chips. I do not have and have no plans for a custom set. One reason is I have not found come up with a great theme. If I do I will probably produce one but have no current plans.

Now some pRon of a few of the set! Good luck

I love my custom set and and very happy I finally ordered it, but I did it 10 years after I got into the high end chip market. I have owned multiple casino sets and sold all but one of them, my Paulson PCA set. It is also a keeper set for me.

The cost of customs is pretty high, my average cost per chip is just over $2 each. If I had to sell I bet I would be lucky to see 60-70% of that. On the other hand every set of Paulson chips that I bought and sold over the years I have broken even or made a small profit on.

So unless you really know what you want from a custom set wait until you are more familiar with chipping in general.

It is hard to lose money with Paulson chips if you buy at a decent price.

Here are few pics of my customs though!

In addition to the pros and cons already mentioned, you are simply not able to get some things custom made. So depending on what you want, customs might not even be an option. That said, my custom sets will always be special to me because of all the work I put into them. I am currently looking into custom Matsuis... :D

Very good advice. Liking it was not enough. Buying custom chips is definitely a measure twice, cut once act. I am the owner of a 1000 chip custom set done in 2007 that was designed by me and never sees play because I wasn't happy with it. I put personal stuff on the chips so they will be in the family forever.
