Over the past few months I’ve been buying racks of Paulsons as I could afford to. I think I finally have all the chips I need. I had some custom labels designed in the HSI style. My plan is to over label these since they’re all mint. I tried my hand at murdering a barrel of DJs and that sucked. :)

Your feedback on the line up and labels would be appreciated. I’m having second thoughts about them. Now I’m debating selling the racks and just buying a complete set from a single casino, and playing them as they are. However, this route would be more expensive and would take another few months to save.

I’d say if you’re looking to have one set out of the two (overlabels vs casino set as-is) then regardless of how long it takes you, save to get the set you really want. If you have room for both, then no harm in moving forward with what you have now first and piecing together a casino set as you have the budget to do so.

Are you overlabeling the full recess on the HSI $1 or just the small inlay? Just curious about this as I’ve contemplated that myself if I went that direction.

The color transition is odd for me personally. The $5/$25/$100 seem to roughly color match the chip, but the color on the $.25 is pretty far off from the chip color and the $1 inlay is a complimentary color that looks like it matches the edge spot instead of the chip color, the only chip like that in the set.

Of course consistency isn’t always necessary so if that’s what suits your eye best, it’s your set after all.

I like the inlay design a lot, simple, easy to read, personalized logo, looks great!

I have found myself in a similar position. I picked up some HSI $1a’s and then built out a set with random chips around them. I really like the HSI $1a’s, so I’ll likely try and build them into a limit set since they aren’t that expensive anyway.

My advice is save and get a full set that you love.

Personally, I say try the over label route and see how you feel after playing with them a few games. I know it’s time consuming to put on labels, especially if you have to ultimately peel them back off, but every time I’ve over labeled chips, I’m amazed at how the set feels. I can imagine it all I want, but until I put the stickers on and put them in play, I really don’t exactly know how much I’ll like it or not.

Also, love the concept of the wandering eye :)

Thank you for your feedback. I’m planning on using the full recess on the HSI $1 so all the inlays are uniform. The label for the $1 is a complementary color, but it’s keeping with the HSI style. When the time comes to have the labels made, I will be using @Gear. The hope is he can help me tweak the colors a bit, especially with the pink.

The gradient is good, but your faux shapes are lost in the detail. I suggest using a white or grey tone as a common background to bring out the contrast.
Thank you for the feedback. I’m trying to follow the HSI theme. This was the inspiration. I can see where a white or grey tone can made the faux shapes pop. Pic borrowed from @twocannons listing.

Hey man, I can see we're a couple of months on. How'd this story pan out? I'm looking into ideas for a set and I'm getting told (very sensibly) to take my time until I'm sure I'm settled on designs I really like. Love the theme and especially the black chips on the right...

Thanks for asking! I ended up making some changes with the chips. I ordered the labels from Gear and decided to over label instead of murdering the chips. Here’s the end result.

I think they came out great… but I’m biased. :)
